PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mountain Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wendell Sailor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Sailor's choice of entrance music: Blackalicious - It's Going Down. Sailor has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 57 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mountain Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wendell Sailor!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sailor throws a series of punches but Rivera moves out of range.
Rivera tries to clinch but Sailor is having none of it.
Sailor just misses with a punch to the body.
Rivera shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sailor sprawls well. Sailor wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rivera gets slowly back to his feet.
Rivera gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sailor counters with a nice body shot.
Rivera changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sailor tries to avoid it but Rivera manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sailor to the ground. Sailor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mountain Rivera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sailor slaps away a takedown attempt from Rivera, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rivera shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sailor as he avoids it easily.
Rivera has been working on his balance at 11th Planet MMA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Sailor.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sailor avoids it really well and circles away.

Rivera tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sailor defends well and Rivera ends up having to push Sailor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sailor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rivera will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sailor uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rivera has time to react.

Rivera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sailor manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rivera shoots in looking for a takedown but Sailor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rivera's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Sailor bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rivera's head.
Sailor defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rivera.
Rivera takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Rivera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sailor pinned against the cage. Sailor gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Sailor connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rivera's hands.

Sailor connects with a leg kick. Rivera looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Rivera shoots in for a double leg but Sailor sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rivera looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sailor is fending him off so far but Rivera persists. Nope, Sailor circles away and we're back to standing.

and Sailor counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rivera tries for a takedown but Sailor sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Sailor. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Rivera looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sailor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rivera drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sailor looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sailor looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sailor!

Rivera manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sailor's best efforts.
Sailor wants to pass to mount but Rivera is defending the position.
Sailor takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Sailor thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rivera's head.
Rivera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sailor is trying to control the action in half guard but Rivera is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Rivera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sailor but Sailor pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Wendell Sailor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sailor winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
