PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Ironfist. Mir has chosen Amazing- Kanye West as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Magnus Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mir shoots in and gets a takedown into Scott's guard.
Scott looking for a sweep. Not yet Scott, not yet.
Mir trying to control but Scott is working from the bottom.
Scott trying to control the position here.
My spies in Blitzkrieg Fighting Systems: Ground inform me that Mir has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Mir engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mir passes Scott's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott is trying to control but can't.

Mir uses his free foot to push down on Scott's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Scott.
Scott is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action.
Scott has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Mir's lack of action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mir can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Scott is looking to escape.
Mir wants to control the action but instead Scott gets a body lock and reverses into Mir's guard! Nice work!

Scott postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Mir pulls Scott in close to prevent any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Scott will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mir had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Scott defends it easily.
Scott lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Mir has control of Scott's left arm, preventing Scott from doing any damage.
Scott not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Mir working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mir keeping moving, preventing Scott from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Mir closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Scott to the mat! Scott manages to get full guard.
Scott has his hands on Mir's head, controlling the position.
Mir trying to control but Scott is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Scott wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mir tries to free his leg and advance position but Scott is retaining full guard.
Mir looking to sit in guard and control but Scott gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Scott controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mir is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Scott got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mir has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Scott has managed to get both his arms back between Mir's legs - danger averted.
Frank Mir has got the better of the ground game so far.
Scott controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Scott is working Mir over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mir looking to hit a scissor sweep but Scott is one step ahead there.
Scott is pushing down on Mir's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mir is fighting to maintain full guard but Scott has managed to sneak the leg through.

Scott looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mir tries to get to full guard but Scott has control of the leg.

Well, if Scott is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Scott wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Scott works over Mir with some ground and pound from guard.
Mir not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mir keeping moving, preventing Scott from controlling successfully.
Scott is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Scott closes the distance and clinches.
Scott just leaning against Mir, taking a breather.

Scott is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mir can't fight it off and eventually Scott manages to take the fight to the floor. Mir looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Scott tightens his grip and picks Mir up, before dumping him to the ground. Mir manages to land in guard.
Mir seems keen to control Scott's posture.
Mir can't keep his opponent in guard - Scott advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mir is not content to let Scott control the position.
Scott seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Scott seems to be working for a kimura but Mir defends the submission attempt.
Mir has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Scott is working away from the top position though.
Scott tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mir knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Scott is keen to just control but Mir is a slippery customer.

Scott is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mir doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Scott.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Scott lands a nice short elbow.

In defeat, Frank Mir stepped up to the mic, saying 'I love you guys. Keep supporting me and I promise to be the guy you want.'.
