Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clayton Channings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donovan Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Donovan Robertson has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Clayton Channings's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clayton Channings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donovan Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robertson throws a looping overhand right but Channings ducks down to avoid it.
Robertson throws a left and a right that both miss
and Channings counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Robertson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Channings decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Robertson's guard.
Robertson keeping moving, preventing Channings from controlling successfully.
Robertson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Channings throws a big elbow that misses.

Robertson is looking for a triangle but Channings pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Channings works over Robertson with some ground and pound from guard.
Robertson lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Channings with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Robertson controls Channings momentarily but Channings frees himself.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Channings accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Channings scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Channings is in close to Robertson's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Channings keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Robertson's head.
Channings has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Channings drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Channings jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Channings got a little sloppy there for a moment and Robertson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Channings has managed to get both his arms back between Robertson's legs - danger averted.
Robertson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Robertson wants to sweep here but Channings controlling him for the moment.

Channings scoring with punches to the head and body.

Robertson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Channings doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Channings manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Robertson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Channings defends it easily.

Channings thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've been hearing good reports from Channings's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Robertson has his foot on Channings's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Channings works his way back into a safe position though.

Channings wants to pass the guard but Robertson is keeping the position.
Channings postures up in Robertson's guard and throws a big left but Robertson blocks it.

Robertson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Channings gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's time! Channings's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Channings shoots in for a takedown but Robertson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Channings keeps the fight on the outside.
Channings stuffs the takedown attempt from Robertson. Robertson gets slowly back to his feet.
Robertson dives in for a single leg takedown but Channings sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Robertson.
Robertson is pressed up against the cage. Channings has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Robertson down to the mat. Robertson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Robertson tries for a takedown but Channings sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Clayton Channings has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Donovan Robertson.

Robertson dives in and scores a takedown into Channings's guard.

Channings manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Robertson comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Channings is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Robertson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Robertson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Robertson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Channings swats away the attempt to clinch by Robertson.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Robertson.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Channings shoots in looking for a takedown. Robertson tries to sprawl out of it but Channings keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Robertson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Robertson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Channings manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Channings shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Robertson as he jumps to the side.
Robertson misses with a wild combination.
Channings avoids a punch combination nicely.

Channings drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Channings avoids the strikes from the bottom by Robertson.
Channings tries to advance to mount but can't.
Robertson is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Robertson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Robertson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Channings off and has taken his back!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A close second round but Donovan Robertson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Channings dives in and grabs Robertson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Robertson pushes down on Channings's head and hops out.
Robertson slaps away a takedown attempt from Channings, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Channings fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clayton Channings. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Robertson swings for the body but Channings moves out of range.
Channings shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Robertson pinned against the cage. Robertson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Channings throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Robertson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Channings is in Robertson's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Channings's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Channings is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Channings stands and throws Robertson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Channings prevents Robertson from escaping the position.
Robertson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Channings is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Robertson!

Channings won't let Robertson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Robertson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Clayton Channings overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

A big strike lands for Channings! That's really hurt Robertson and he's turned his back - Channings keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Channings jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

A very excited looking Clayton Channings made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
