PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Masa Mune (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Silver told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masa Mune!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Silver!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Taro Takaoka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mune misses with an uppercut.
Silver misses with a left hand

and Mune counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mune is looking to work some ground and pound but Silver has wrist control.
Mune throwing strikes but missing.

Silver really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mune. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mune scores with a crisp jab that stopped Silver in his tracks.
Mune has been working on his balance at Lock and Roll Grappling Gym, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Silver.

Mune is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Silver's half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Masa Mune will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Mune shoots in for a takedown but Silver shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Silver clobbers Mune with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Mune walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Silver is trying to control Mune's posture but Mune avoids it.
Silver felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mune wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silver keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mune creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Silver sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Masa Mune overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mune wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silver, who protects the arm well.
Mune remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
