PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Devin Jaqquard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fido Dogger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Devin Jaqquard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fido Dogger!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaqquard throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jaqquard swings widly with a right hand
and Dogger counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jaqquard's knee momentarily.
Jaqquard misses with a right hand
and Dogger counters with a thumping low kick.
Dogger walks into a left hand.
Jaqquard misses with a right hand
and Dogger counters with a thumping low kick.
Jaqquard throws an overhand right that lands on Dogger's shoulder, as Dogger tries to avoid the shot.
Jaqquard misses with a hook. Dogger ducked under it nicely.
Dogger dodges the punch combination from Jaqquard.
Dogger closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jaqquard jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Jaqquard misses the shot to the body.
Jaqquard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jaqquard swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jaqquard throws an overhand right that lands on Dogger's shoulder, as Dogger tries to avoid the shot.
Jaqquard has a takedown stuffed.
Devin Jaqquard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jaqquard loads up on a big right hand but Dogger slips the punch.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jaqquard.
Jaqquard throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dogger.

and Dogger counters with a thumping low kick.
Jaqquard looks to throw the jab but Dogger is out of range.

Jaqquard decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jaqquard is looking to advance position but Dogger won't allow it.
Jaqquard lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jaqquard is trying to control. Dogger wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dogger makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dogger.
Jaqquard lands a couple of digs.

Jaqquard passes into half guard.
Dogger is looking for a sweep. Jaqquard is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jaqquard thows a huge punch but Dogger dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dogger is staying active underneath Jaqquard, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Well, if Jaqquard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jaqquard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dogger for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dogger takes one on the chin but seems OK.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jab, jab by Jaqquard - just one landing.
Dogger moves away from the strike by Jaqquard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jaqquard throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Dogger counters with an outside leg kick.
Jaqquard misses with a left hand
and Dogger counters with a slapping leg kick.
Jaqquard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dogger.
Dogger blocks a jab.
Jaqquard throws a jab when Dogger was well out of range.
Jaqquard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dogger bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jaqquard closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jaqquard remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Jaqquard is looking to take a break and control but Dogger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sloppy strikes there by Jaqquard.
Jaqquard throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Dogger works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Dogger keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jaqquard wants to pass the guard but Dogger is defending well.
Jaqquard with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Jaqquard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dogger can do to turn this around?
Dogger regains full guard. Nicely done.
Jaqquard lands a couple of elbows.
Dogger tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jaqquard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jaqquard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dogger works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jaqquard is in close to Dogger's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Dogger keeping moving, preventing Jaqquard from controlling successfully.
Dogger is trying to control the position but Jaqquard postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jaqquard is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Jaqquard shoots in looking for a takedown but Dogger manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jaqquard's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Dogger counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Jaqquard looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devin Jaqquard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jaqquard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dogger's guard.

Jaqquard pushes down on Dogger's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jaqquard is looking to stall here but Dogger recovers full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jaqquard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No luck for Jaqquard with that takedown attempt.
Jaqquard shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dogger defends it nicely.
Jaqquard shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dogger pinned against the cage. Dogger gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devin Jaqquard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Devin Jaqquard is winning the standup battle so far.
Jaqquard comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Jaqquard throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Dogger counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jaqquard's knee momentarily.
Dogger is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jaqquard shoots in but Dogger avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Dogger ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jaqquard is defended easily by Dogger.
Dogger bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jaqquard shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dogger as he jumps to the side.
Jaqquard throws a hook but Dogger avoids it easily.
Jaqquard clobbers Dogger with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Dogger leaves Jaqquard with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jaqquard goes for a double leg but Dogger avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dogger continues to drive forward.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dogger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dogger steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jaqquard.

Jaqquard gets the takedown into side control.
Jaqquard throws an elbow but Dogger slips to the side and avoids it well.
Jaqquard throwing strikes but Dogger manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Dogger stands up.
Jaqquard misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jaqquard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dogger tries to avoid it but Jaqquard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dogger to the ground. Dogger escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dogger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jaqquard.

Jaqquard closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dogger did well to prevent Jaqquard getting side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Jaqquard has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
