PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yrjoe Velmu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esteban Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Scotty Doesn't Know. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yrjoe Velmu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Esteban Scott!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velmu fails to land with a series of punches.
We've been informed that Scott has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Velmu connects with a leg kick. Scott looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Velmu takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Velmu tries to clinch there but Scott circles away.

Velmu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Scott to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Scott throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Velmu escapes and throws Scott's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Velmu remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Scott is looking to regain half guard here but Velmu keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Velmu got a little sloppy there for a moment and Scott has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velmu has managed to get both his arms back between Scott's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Velmu misses with a series of wild punches.
Velmu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Velmu wants it to stay on the feet.
Scott tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Velmu throws a right and a left that Scott avoids nicely.
Velmu connects with a solid leg kick.
Scott throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Scott throws a push kick but Velmu slaps the foot to one side.

Velmu is looking to clinch but Scott is avoiding it.

Velmu misses with an uppercut. Scott saw that one coming.
Velmu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Velmu is looking to chop away at Scott's legs.
Velmu connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Velmu misses with a looping right.

Velmu throws a right hand that Scott ducks under and follows up with a left that Scott also avoids with ease.

Scott closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Velmu's guard.

Scott has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velmu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Scott is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've been told by Velmu's head coaches at The Jungle Elite MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Velmu has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Scott.
Scott moves out of range of the body kick.

and Velmu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Scott takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Yrjoe Velmu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Scott feints and as Velmu raises his hands in defense, Scott changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Scott bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velmu's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Scott accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Scott throws a lazy head kick
and Velmu finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Velmu takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Scott fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Velmu.
Velmu tries to land a leg kick but Scott saw it coming and moves away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Velmu crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Scott - the referee stops the clock and Velmu gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Scott. Velmu manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Scott uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Velmu.

Velmu dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Scott. That did some damage!

Velmu connects with a right hand. Scott shakes it off.
Scott moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Scott steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Velmu.
Esteban Scott is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Scott shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Velmu lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Scott has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Scott and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

I would just about give that final round to Esteban Scott.
I've got Scott winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
