PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darrel Hopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Tyrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darrel Hopper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Drew Tyrone!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyrone falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hopper cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tyrone looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Tyrone tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hopper paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hopper changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tyrone tries to avoid it but Hopper manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tyrone to the ground. Tyrone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Tyrone gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hopper to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Tyrone preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hopper connects with a couple of short punches.
Tyrone avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Hopper gets to his feet - Tyrone follows without any prompting.
Hopper shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tyrone defends it nicely.
Tyrone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hopper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tyrone as he jumps to the side.

so Tyrone counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Hopper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hopper working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tyrone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tyrone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tyrone looking to sit in guard and control but Hopper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hopper has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tyrone is proving hard to escape from.

Hopper stands up from Tyrone's guard - Hopper perhaps looking for a knockout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hopper.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tyrone lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hopper circles away quickly and effectively.
Hopper wants to clinch up but Tyrone keeps it at a distance.

and Tyrone takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Hopper dives in and scores a takedown into Tyrone's guard.
Tyrone working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hopper.
Tyrone is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hopper cracks Tyrone with a solid left hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hopper with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hopper is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tyrone wants to control but Hopper is keeping busy.

Hopper is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopper is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Tyrone is looking for a sweep. Hopper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hopper is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Hopper decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Hopper shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tyrone as he avoids it easily.

Hopper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tyrone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hopper somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darrel Hopper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hopper shoots in for a takedown but Tyrone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Hopper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tyrone manages to get himself to full guard.

Hopper is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hopper won't allow Tyrone to sweep him here.

A close second round but Drew Tyrone will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Tyrone looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Tyrone leaves Hopper with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hopper shoots in looking for a takedown but Tyrone manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hopper's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nice takedown defense from Tyrone. No joy for Hopper on that attempt.

Tyrone wants to control from the top but Hopper keeps moving.
Hopper looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tyrone puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Hopper is trying to maintain the position but Tyrone is very close to passing his half guard.
Hopper controlling the position well.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tyrone is trying to control the action in half guard but Hopper is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Tyrone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tyrone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hopper regains half guard there - taking advantage of Tyrone's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Hopper is defending against the submission attempts here by Tyrone.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Drew Tyrone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tyrone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Drew Tyrone spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
