PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martin Jensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Jensen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Killing in the name of.... These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Martin Jensen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Conor McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jensen leaves McGregor with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jensen was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Jensen tries to keep at a distance but McGregor has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jensen throws a head punch that misses.
McGregor tries to pull guard but Jensen won't allow it.
McGregor jumps guard but Jensen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Martin Jensen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor McGregor.

McGregor breaks the clinch.
McGregor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jensen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jensen swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

McGregor drives through with a takedown into Jensen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

McGregor drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jensen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McGregor has Jensen in his guard.

McGregor looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jensen has picked McGregor up and slammed him! McGregor can't keep hold of the triangle and Jensen manages to pass to side control!

McGregor is looking to regain half guard here but Jensen keeps moving and retains side control.
McGregor felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Jensen tries to advance to mount but can't.

Jensen stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Jensen looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Conor McGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGregor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jensen's waist but Jensen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McGregor off to one side.
McGregor drops his hands momentarily and Jensen takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Jensen's jab looks to have found its range, popping McGregor under the eye.
McGregor shoots in but Jensen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jensen swings for the body but McGregor moves out of range.
Jensen scores with a decent looking hook.
McGregor fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jensen avoids it really well and circles away.
Jensen was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

McGregor closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jensen did well to prevent McGregor getting side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jensen is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Jensen is looking to improve his position.

McGregor is looking for a kimura but Jensen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McGregor to get the leverage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jensen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

McGregor is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jensen is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jensen has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McGregor keeping moving, preventing Jensen from controlling successfully.

McGregor working for a triangle but Jensen defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jensen pushing down on McGregor's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
McGregor works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jensen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

McGregor looking for a guillotine here but Jensen defends easily.

McGregor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jensen wants to pass the guard but McGregor is keeping the position.

McGregor throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

McGregor looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jensen passes into side control.
McGregor is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jensen off and has taken his back!

McGregor is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jensen defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Martin Jensen will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


McGregor misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McGregor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jensen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jensen stuffs the takedown attempt from McGregor. McGregor gets slowly back to his feet.
Jensen is looking to counter punch.
Jensen lands with a shot to the body.
Jensen cracks McGregor with a right hand to the side of the head.
McGregor drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jensen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jensen lunges at McGregor with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by McGregor's hand.
Jensen is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
McGregor dives in for a single leg takedown but Jensen sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Jensen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A swing and a miss from Jensen.
Jensen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McGregor moves away.
McGregor shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jensen as he jumps to the side.
McGregor fails with the takedown
and Jensen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McGregor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

McGregor darts in looking for a takedown but Jensen gets double underhooks and turns McGregor into the cage.
Jensen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGregor manages to avoid it.
McGregor unleashes a big counter combination but Jensen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
McGregor shoots in but no luck this time.
McGregor misses with a takedown
and Jensen counters with a stiff right hand.
McGregor is breathing heavily.
McGregor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jensen throws a body punch but McGregor moves out of range.
Jensen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McGregor can do to turn this around?
Jensen misses with a hook. McGregor ducked under it nicely.

Jensen cracks McGregor with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Jensen has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning McGregor to stand back up!


McGregor is rocked!
Martin Jensen is winning the standup battle so far.
McGregor gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
McGregor is still on wobbly legs! Can Jensen finish him?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A telegraphed right hand from Jensen misses the target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McGregor.
BOOM! Jensen lands a beautiful left hook that drops McGregor. McGregor tries to recover but Jensen is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and McGregor lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Martin Jensen!
Martin Jensen spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
