PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Laston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franco Colombo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Laston comes to the cage accompanied by Survivor-Eye of the Tiger. Franco Colombo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Laston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 41 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franco Colombo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laston will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Colombo throws an overhand right that lands on Laston's shoulder, as Laston tries to avoid the shot.
Laston shoots in looking for a takedown. Colombo tries to sprawl out of it but Laston keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Colombo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Colombo drops Laston with a big left hand and mounts him. Laston is in big trouble!


It looks like John Laston has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laston stops Colombo from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Colombo has control of Laston's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Laston regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Laston sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Laston keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Laston looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Laston manages to get to full guard.

Laston is looking for a triangle but Colombo pushes his legs off easily.
Laston tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Colombo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Laston wants to sweep here but Colombo controlling him for the moment.

Laston looking for a guillotine here but Colombo defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Colombo trying to control but Laston is working from the bottom.

Laston is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Colombo is aware though and is defending well.

Laston working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Colombo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Colombo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Colombo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Laston won't allow Colombo to pass to mount.
Laston gets full guard.

Laston is looking for a triangle but Colombo pushes his legs off easily.

Colombo tries to free his leg and advance position but Laston is retaining full guard.

Laston looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Laston keeping moving, preventing Colombo from controlling successfully.

Laston has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Colombo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Colombo tries to free his leg and advance position but Laston is retaining full guard.

Laston has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Colombo should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Laston has tightened it up now! Colombo should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
