The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newell dives in for a single leg takedown but Furingi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Furingi struggles to land a body shot inside as Newell controls his hands.
Furingi lands a hook to the side of the head.

Furingi breaks the clinch.
Furingi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Newell.
Furingi moves out of range as Newell strikes.
Newell getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Newell avoids the body shot from Furingi.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Newell stuns Furingi with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Newell misses with a body shot.
Furingi feints a jab promting Newell to slip. Furingi then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Newell slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
A right-left combo lands from Furingi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Furingi misses with a hook.
Furingi walks into a straight right hand from Newell.
Furingi avoids the body shot from Newell.
Furingi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Newell.
Newell looks to land a left hand but Furingi moved out of range nicely.
Furingi takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Newell misses with a hook. Furingi ducked under it nicely.
Newell avoids the head kick by Furingi.
Furingi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nice jab there from Newell.
We've been told by Furingi's head coaches at Tōshi that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Newell slips a jab from Furingi.
Furingi misses with a series of wild punches.
Furingi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Newell moves out of range of the body kick from Furingi.
Newell drops his hands momentarily and Furingi takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Newell swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Myles Newell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Newell.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Newell looks up at the clock and then as Furingi takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Newell smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Furingi wants to get back to his feet but Newell drags him back down.

Newell creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Furingi on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Newell trying to control the action but Furingi is working from the bottom.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Newell lands some shots froms side control.
Furingi is looking for a sweep.
Newell cracks Furingi with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Furingi pushes Newell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Newell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Furingi is working to avoid the ground and pound but Newell connects with a decent elbow.
