PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mountain Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 58 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mountain Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jackie Chan!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera fails with a takedown attempt.

Chan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rivera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chan is in Rivera's guard.
Rivera tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rivera is working hard here to advance position.
Chan is looking to work some ground and pound but Rivera has wrist control.
Rivera is looking to stand up but Chan isn't so interested in that idea.
Chan controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rivera had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Chan defends it easily.

Chan won't allow Rivera to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Chan gets a takedown into half guard.
Chan content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rivera is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Chan jumps into side control!

Rivera parries the strikes from Chan easily there. Chan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rivera to escape.
Chan misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Chan lands an elbow.
Rivera throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Rivera is letting Chan control him for a moment.
Rivera manages to get back to half guard.
Chan moves into full mount! Rivera won't be happy about that!
Rivera is looking to improve his position but Chan isn't that keen on the idea.

Chan content just to control the position here.
Chan lands a nice shot to the head.
Chan with a couple of short strikes.
Rivera is squirming around, avoiding Chan's attempts to control the action.

Rivera working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chan lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chan tries to control but Rivera wriggling away.
Rivera is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
BOOM! Chan connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chan lands a nice shot to the head.


Rivera is rocked!
Rivera tries to buck Chan off but he can't manage it.
Oh Rivera is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Chan content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Chan tries to work over Rivera's front leg with a kick but Rivera checks it.
Rivera seems to have got his legs back now.
Mountain Rivera is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rivera shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Chan counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Rivera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Chan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rivera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chan has managed to get both his arms back between Rivera's legs - danger averted.

Chan tries to free his leg and advance position but Rivera is retaining full guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rivera doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Chan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Chan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rivera is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Chan scores with a couple of nice shots.

Chan is trying to control. Rivera wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Chan is pressing down on Rivera's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rivera is holding on for now.

Chan thows a huge punch but Rivera dodges it nicely.
Chan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Chan working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Rivera's thigh. Rivera counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Chan lands a couple of elbows.

Rivera has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Chan is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Chan gets underhooks to prevent Rivera's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mountain Rivera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chan wants to stall.
Chan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rivera is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Chan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Chan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rivera regains guard immediately.
Rivera manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chan manages to get himself to full guard.

Rivera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Chan pushes Rivera off and scrambles back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rivera has his takedown stuffed

and Chan moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Rivera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Chan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Rivera seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Rivera lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chan circles away quickly and effectively.

Jackie Chan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
