Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ilkka Laitinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wai Man Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Laitinen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, AC/DC - Thunderstruck. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ilkka Laitinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wai Man Li!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laitinen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Laitinen throws a body shot but no joy.
Li uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Laitinen.
Li connects with a right hand. Laitinen shakes it off.
Laitinen's jab looks to have found its range, popping Li under the eye.
Laitinen misses with a hook. Li ducked under it nicely.
Laitinen throws a leg kick that misses.
Li misses with a right hand
and Laitinen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Laitinen throws a wild body kick that Li sees coming a mile off.
Wai Man Li seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laitinen misses with an uppercut.
Li throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Li digs a good hook to Laitinen's body.
Laitinen throws a lazy uppercut
and Li counters with a straight right hand.

Li throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Li throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Laitinen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Laitinen takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Li scores with a hook to the body. Laitinen takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Li wants to lay and pray for a moment but Laitinen keeps working.
Laitinen is trying to maintain the position but Li is very close to passing his half guard.
Li moves into full mount! Laitinen won't be happy about that!

Li can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Laitinen is looking to escape.
Li throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Laitinen because Li loaded up on that one.
Laitinen tries to lock up and control but Li gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Li throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Li is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Laitinen to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Laitinen shrugs it off.

Li misses with some ground and pound and Laitinen recovers position to half guard.
Li seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Laitinen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Laitinen is pressing down on Li's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Li wants to control from the top but Laitinen keeps moving.
Laitinen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Li's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Laitinen content to stall in guard here.
Li looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Laitinen puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Li is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Li is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Laitinen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Laitinen's back!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Li shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Laitinen napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Li is trying to get an arm triangle but Laitinen is defending well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Li misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Li is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Laitinen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Laitinen is bucking up trying to escape but Li cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Laitinen is in a horrible position here. Li smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Li prevents Laitinen from getting the reversal.

Laitinen has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Li's lack of action.
Li has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Li perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Li wants to pass the guard but Laitinen is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Laitinen tries to get to full guard but Li has control of the leg.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Li wants to pass to mount but Laitinen is defending the position.
Li is keen to just control but Laitinen is a slippery customer.
Laitinen wants to get back to his feet.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Laitinen throws a body punch but Li moves out of range.
Li looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Li swings for the body but Laitinen moves out of range.
Laitinen was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Laitinen throws a nice looking combination but Li bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Li shoots for a takedown but Laitinen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A quick step to the side and Laitinen tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wai Man Li showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

and Li counters with a series of strikes. Laitinen will be more careful next time no doubt.

Laitinen appears to be looking for a big counter.
Li is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Laitinen rather than just go for the knockout.
Li scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Laitinen will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Laitinen connects with a leg kick. Li looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Laitinen fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Li.
Laitinen walks into a stiff left hand from Li.
Laitinen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A clash of legs there as Laitinen blocks the low kick.
Li throws a hook but Laitinen avoids it easily.
The fighters circling - Li throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Li has a takedown stuffed.
Laitinen fires out a quick counter leg kick but Li just manages to avoid it.

Laitinen moves out of range of the body kick from Li.
Ilkka Laitinen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Laitinen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Li stuns Laitinen with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Li darts in looking for a takedown but Laitinen gets double underhooks and turns Li into the cage.
Ilkka Laitinen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wai Man Li.
Laitinen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Li.
Li goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Laitinen lands with a nice body punch.
Ilkka Laitinen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Laitinen throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

and Laitinen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Li displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Laitinen throws out the jab.
Li darts in looking for a takedown but Laitinen gets double underhooks and turns Li into the cage.

Li shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Li showed some decent athleticism there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Laitinen wants to control but Li is keeping busy.
Wai Man Li is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Li stalling away here and it's allowed Laitinen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Laitinen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Li dives into side control.
Laitinen is not content to let Li control the position.
Laitinen is trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Wai Man Li.
I've got Li winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Wai Man Li started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
