The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez stuffs the takedown attempt from Twentytwo. Twentytwo gets slowly back to his feet.
Gomez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Twentytwo shoots in looking for a takedown. Gomez tries to sprawl out of it but Twentytwo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gomez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Twentytwo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Doug Gomez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jdai Twentytwo.

Twentytwo lands a left and a right that send Gomez crashing to the mat, dazed. Twentytwo thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Twentytwo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gomez as he avoids it easily.
Twentytwo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gomez's waist but Gomez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Twentytwo off to one side.

Gomez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Twentytwo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gomez has managed to get both his arms back between Twentytwo's legs - danger averted.
Gomez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Twentytwo on the ground.

Twentytwo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gomez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Twentytwo wants to sweep here but Gomez controlling him for the moment.
Gomez tries to stand but Twentytwo is controlling from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Twentytwo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Gomez darts in looking for a takedown but Twentytwo gets double underhooks and turns Gomez into the cage.

Twentytwo goes for a double leg but Gomez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gomez continues to drive forward.
Gomez pushes off an throws an elbow but Twentytwo leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Gomez gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Gomez tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Twentytwo is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Gomez buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Gomez!! Gomez is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Twentytwo throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
