PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Keith McMordurch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Shawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McMordurch comes to the cage accompanied by kvekertak- Evig vandrar. Rob Shawn is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Keith McMordurch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rob Shawn!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shawn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shawn decides to stand back up.
Shawn tries to close the distance and clinch but McMordurch swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Keith McMordurch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shawn shoots for a takedown but McMordurch saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

McMordurch rushes Shawn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shawn jumps into guard, dragging McMordurch to the mat.
McMordurch has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McMordurch wants to stand but Shawn is controlling his posture from full guard.
McMordurch stops Shawn from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shawn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McMordurch throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shawn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
McMordurch is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Shawn wants to stand and escape but McMordurch is having none of it.

McMordurch trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Shawn is looking to stand up but McMordurch isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
McMordurch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shawn tries to avoid it but McMordurch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shawn to the ground. Shawn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shawn closes the distance and pushes McMordurch back into the cage.
McMordurch really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McMordurch tries a knee to the head but Shawn blocks it.
Shawn tries to pull guard but McMordurch forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
McMordurch's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

McMordurch jumps guard and drags Shawn to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
McMordurch seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
McMordurch wants to get back to his feet but Shawn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

McMordurch is working an open guard so Shawn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
McMordurch pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shawn looks for a takedown but McMordurch sprawls well.
Keith McMordurch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Shawn.
McMordurch lands with a nice body punch.

McMordurch tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Nice takedown defense from Shawn. No joy for McMordurch on that attempt.

McMordurch gets the takedown into side control.
Shawn is trying to buck McMordurch off.
Shawn gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Shawn is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
McMordurch trying to control but Shawn is having none of it.

McMordurch won't let Shawn get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
McMordurch cracks Shawn with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

McMordurch moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Shawn has worked his arm free - good work by Shawn!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McMordurch is looking to take a break and control but Shawn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keith McMordurch dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shawn dives in for a single leg takedown but McMordurch sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

McMordurch manages to pull guard.
McMordurch has his hands on Shawn's head, controlling the position.

Shawn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Shawn stands and steps away. McMordurch gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
McMordurch shoots in but Shawn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McMordurch tries a head kick but it misses.
Shawn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McMordurch displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shawn.

Shawn wants a takedown but no success here.
Shawn is trying to drag McMordurch to the mat but McMordurch just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Shawn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shawn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Shawn stands up out of the half guard.
Shawn tries to close the distance and clinch up but McMordurch swats him away and circles back towards the center.

McMordurch throws an off balance right hand

and Shawn counters with a nice double leg into side control. McMordurch won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shawn decides to stand back up. Shawn steps back and let's McMordurch get back to his feet.

Shawn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McMordurch's guard.

Shawn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Keith McMordurch is winning the standup battle so far.
Shawn throws a right hand that McMordurch ducks under and follows up with a left that McMordurch also avoids with ease.
McMordurch lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McMordurch.
Shawn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McMordurch tries to avoid it but Shawn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McMordurch to the ground. McMordurch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rob Shawn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

McMordurch shoots in for a takedown but Shawn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shawn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McMordurch doesn't manage to clinch there - Shawn circles away.

McMordurch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shawn tries to avoid it but McMordurch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shawn to the ground. Shawn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

McMordurch leaves Shawn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

McMordurch is fighting off a takedown attempt but Shawn is just too persistent for him and manages to trip McMordurch to the mat. McMordurch regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

McMordurch's corner calls for a 1-2. McMordurch obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Shawn swings for the body but McMordurch moves out of range.

McMordurch gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shawn to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Shawn got a little sloppy there for a moment and McMordurch has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shawn has managed to get both his arms back between McMordurch's legs - danger averted.
Rob Shawn has got the better of the ground game so far.

Shawn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McMordurch, up you get!

McMordurch looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice sprawl there from McMordurch as Shawn shoots in.

Shawn drives through and clinches with McMordurch against the cage.
McMordurch is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Shawn has McMordurch pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Shawn pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McMordurch tumbling to the mat - Shawn dives into McMordurch's guard.
McMordurch pulls Shawn in close to prevent any damage.
McMordurch wants to get back to his feet but Shawn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rob Shawn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shawn has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
