Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Renato Bernard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manny Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manny Ortiz will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renato Bernard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Manny Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ortiz.
Bernard is not content to let Ortiz control the position.
Ortiz looking to control but instead Bernard has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Bernard slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Ortiz preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ortiz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ortiz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ortiz scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Ortiz tries to free his leg and advance position but Bernard is retaining full guard.

Bernard throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Bernard keeping moving, preventing Ortiz from controlling successfully.
Bernard utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ortiz throwing strikes but missing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ortiz lands a couple of digs.
Bernard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ortiz scoring with punches to the head and body.
Bernard keeping moving, preventing Ortiz from controlling successfully.
Bernard wants to sweep here but Ortiz controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ortiz fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bernard throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ortiz.
No luck for Bernard with that takedown attempt.

Ortiz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ortiz tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Ortiz laying and praying for a moment but Bernard takes advantage and regains half guard.
Ortiz is trying to control. Bernard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Bernard tries to get to full guard but Ortiz has control of the leg.
Ortiz is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Bernard reverses the position - he's now on top in Ortiz's guard.
Bernard wants to get up but he can't break Ortiz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ortiz wants to stand but Bernard is controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ortiz pulls Bernard in close to prevent any damage.
Ortiz controls Bernard momentarily but Bernard frees himself.
Bernard trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ortiz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bernard is controlling him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Bernard has closed the distance and engaged Ortiz in a clinch.
Ortiz wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ortiz blocks an elbow strike from Bernard.
Ortiz lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Renato Bernard has been cut.
Ortiz keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bernard's efforts to push away.
Bernard looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Ortiz prevents Bernard from breaking the clinch.

Bernard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bernard throws a big elbow that misses.
Manny Ortiz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ortiz has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Bernard has passed into side control.
Ortiz tries to buck Bernard off but Bernard is having none of it.
Ortiz wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Bernard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ortiz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ortiz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ortiz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Ortiz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Bernard tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ortiz is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Bernard tries for a kimura but Ortiz is defending well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ortiz lands a head kick!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bernard enables Ortiz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bernard manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Bernard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ortiz is one step ahead there.
Bernard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ortiz distracts Bernard with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Manny Ortiz will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Renato Bernard's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Bernard tries to clinch up.
Bernard keeps the fight on the outside.
No joy there for Ortiz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ortiz scores with a one two! Bernard had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Bernard is looking to clinch but Ortiz is avoiding it.
Renato Bernard is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bernard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ortiz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bernard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ortiz tries to avoid it but Bernard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ortiz to the ground. Ortiz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ortiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bernard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bernard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ortiz's waist but Ortiz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bernard off to one side.

Ortiz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bernard is trying to defend but Ortiz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ortiz passes the guard and advances to mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bernard is trying desperately to improve position.
Bernard is squirming around, avoiding Ortiz's attempts to control the action.
Bernard is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ortiz cracks Bernard with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Manny Ortiz!
