PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Kenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 23 - 5, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Kenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsuyo Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenzie misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Maeda.
Kenzie bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Maeda's head.
Maeda showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kenzie.
Kenzie lands with a hook. Maeda tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Kenzie keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Kenzie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maeda swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Kenzie has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Warehouse in the buildup to the fight.
Kenzie throws a lazy right hand but Maeda sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Maeda gets tackled into the cage by Kenzie. Kenzie maintains the clinch.
Maeda has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kenzie after a bit of a struggle.
Kenzie lands a hook that snaps the head of Maeda backwards.
Maeda blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kenzie enables Maeda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kenzie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
My spies in Brazilian Elite Team inform me that Maeda has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Maeda takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Maeda throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kenzie stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That was a close second round but I would say that Patrick Kenzie will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Patrick Kenzie.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kenzie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
