The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Macron throws a left and a right that both miss
and Fowler counters with a straight right hand.
Macron looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Macron lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fowler circles away quickly and effectively.
Macron ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fowler moves away.
Fowler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Macron moves into the clinch.
Fowler tries to pull guard but Macron forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Macron avoiding damage.
Fowler is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Macron is defending well.

Fowler feints a jab promting Macron to slip. Fowler then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Macron slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Macron shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Fowler tries to close the distance and clinch but Macron swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Macron enables Fowler to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Macron manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Macron can do anything to dispel that myth.
Macron really wants to buck Fowler off and get back to his feet.
Macron wants to hold on but Fowler pushes him away.
Fowler has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Macron's face.
Buford Fowler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fowler is looking to take a break and control but Macron is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
