Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Garfield Mcknight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Decimus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garfield Mcknight has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Garfield Mcknight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Maximus Decimus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcknight enables Meridius to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcknight manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Meridius trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcknight is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mcknight keeping full guard, as Meridius tries to pass.
Mcknight keeping moving, preventing Meridius from controlling successfully.
Meridius wants to get up but he can't break Mcknight's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Meridius fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcknight sprawls well initially but Meridius persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mcknight trying to hold on to Meridius's head to control him but Meridius postures up.
Mcknight is staying active underneath Meridius, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Meridius is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Meridius is working for a kimura but Mcknight is defending it quite comfortably.
Meridius stalling away here and it's allowed Mcknight to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Meridius tries to free his leg and advance position but Mcknight is retaining full guard.
Meridius throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Meridius shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mcknight wants to get back to his feet but Meridius is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mcknight avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Meridius trying to control but Mcknight is working from the bottom.
Meridius throws a big elbow that misses.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Meridius postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mcknight is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Meridius, into his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Meridius controls Mcknight momentarily but Mcknight frees himself.
Meridius trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Meridius looking to control but Mcknight passes into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Meridius makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Meridius.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maximus Decimus Meridius dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Meridius moves in looking to clinch but Mcknight pushes him off.

Meridius shoots in and bounces Mcknight off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Meridius is looking to pass into half guard but Mcknight pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mcknight is in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcknight has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Meridius is proving hard to escape from.
Meridius wants to control but Mcknight passes easily into half guard.
Meridius manages to get to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Meridius can do anything to dispel that myth.

Meridius looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mcknight is one step ahead there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Meridius looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mcknight distracts Meridius with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Meridius pulls Mcknight in close to prevent any damage.

Meridius looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mcknight has picked Meridius up and slammed him! Meridius can't keep hold of the triangle and Mcknight manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Meridius holds on to Mcknight's head and controls the position momentarily.
Meridius managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mcknight.
Meridius is trying to get back to half guard.
Mcknight gets to mount! Meridius was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Mcknight punishing his opponent with strikes.

Mcknight avoids the attempt from Meridius to control.

Meridius tries to buck Mcknight off but he can't manage it.
Mcknight breaks from Meridius's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Meridius can't escape the position.
Meridius taking shots to the head.
Meridius sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garfield Mcknight dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Mcknight.
Nice takedown defense from Meridius. No joy for Mcknight on that attempt.

Meridius closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Meridius looks up at the clock and then as Mcknight takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Meridius smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Mcknight regains half guard there - taking advantage of Meridius's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Meridius is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mcknight has managed to free his arm - good work.
Meridius takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mcknight trying to control but Meridius postures up.
Meridius trying to control from Mcknight's half guard. Mcknight has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Meridius wants to control from the top but Mcknight keeps moving.
Mcknight not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mcknight is trying hard to land a takedown here. Meridius sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garfield Mcknight. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Meridius tries to land a front kick but Mcknight steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Mcknight gets tackled into the cage by Meridius. Meridius maintains the clinch.

Meridius breaks the clinch.

Meridius is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mcknight's half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Meridius throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Meridius seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Meridius is looking to stall here but Mcknight recovers full guard.

Mcknight keeping moving, preventing Meridius from controlling successfully.
Meridius stops Mcknight from standing up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Meridius looking to sit in guard and control but Mcknight gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Maximus Decimus Meridius comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meridius has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
