Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Zal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brain Buro!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zal with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Buro to score with a decent uppercut.
Zal throws a right hand that misses
and Buro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Buro misses with a jab, cross combination.
A counter left hand to the body from Zal misses its target.
Zal throws a right hand that Buro ducks under and follows up with a left that Buro also avoids with ease.
Buro looks to land a combination but Zal avoids it well.

enabling Buro to counter with a crisp jab.
Buro closes the distance and lands a one-two.

This has been an exciting period of action!

We've been hearing reports that Zal has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Zal changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Buro looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Buro might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

and Buro counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Buro throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Zal on the side of the head.

Buro wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Buro shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Zal eats them both and turns towards Buro to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Nick Zal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Buro counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Zal dives in for a single leg takedown but Buro sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
As Zal backs off Buro throws a huge counter combo but Zal manages to avoid it all.

Buro has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Zal has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Buro wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zal has him pressed against the cage.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Zal takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Zal shoots in looking for a takedown. Buro tries to sprawl out of it but Zal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Buro manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Buro lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
