PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Honza Kucera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yancy Malaki Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yancy Malaki Jr will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Honza Kucera!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Yancy Malaki Jr!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malaki Jr throws a hook but Kucera avoids it easily.
Malaki Jr fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Malaki Jr throws a jab but it's blocked by Kucera.
Malaki Jr throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kucera on the side of the head.
Malaki Jr throws a push kick but Kucera slaps the foot to one side.
Kucera on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Malaki Jr wants to land a leg kick but Kucera is out of range.
Kucera blocks a low kick nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Malaki Jr lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Kucera ducks right into an uppercut from Malaki Jr.
Malaki Jr stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Malaki Jr wants it to stay on the feet.
It seemed like Malaki Jr was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Kucera fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Malaki Jr is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've been hearing reports that Kucera has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Kucera shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Malaki Jr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Malaki Jr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Malaki Jr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kucera is working away from the top position though.

Kucera seems to be working for a kimura but Malaki Jr defends the submission attempt.
Malaki Jr is doing well to control the position and prevent Kucera from advancing to side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kucera takes one to the side of the head.

Kucera shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Malaki Jr defends it nicely.

Malaki Jr lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kucera moves out of range as Malaki Jr strikes.

and Malaki Jr counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Honza Kucera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kucera shoots in and bounces Malaki Jr off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kucera drops down looking for a counter takedown but Malaki Jr sprawls and moves away.
Yancy Malaki Jr seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Malaki Jr misses with a low kick as Kucera jumps back.
Malaki Jr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kucera was well out of range. Poor timing from Malaki Jr.

and Kucera decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Malaki Jr's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Malaki Jr has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kucera has passed into side control.
Malaki Jr has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Kucera wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Malaki Jr, who protects the arm well.

Kucera is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Malaki Jr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Malaki Jr manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kucera's best efforts.
Kucera prevents Malaki Jr from improving his position.

Malaki Jr is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Kucera has latched onto it... Big trouble! Kucera pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Malaki Jr is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Kucera!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Honza Kucera!
