Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Matters!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Medina is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Matters's half guard.
Matters tries to kick Medina off but Medina keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Medina really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Medina wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matters keeps working.
Medina throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Matters closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Medina to the mat! Medina manages to get full guard.
Matters wants to control from the top but Medina keeps moving.

Matters wants to sweep here but Medina controlling him for the moment.

Matters scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matters rushes Medina and presses him up against the cage.

Matters works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Medina has his foot on Matters's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Matters works his way back into a safe position though.

Medina parries the strikes from Matters easily there. Matters is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Medina to escape.

Matters stands up and beckons Medina to his feet.

and Medina counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pablo Medina will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Medina shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matters as he avoids it easily.

Matters darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Medina is refusing to be controlled, as Matters sits in half guard.

Medina is defending against the submission attempts here by Matters.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matters perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Matters is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Medina defends it well.
Matters missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Matters has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Matters throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Medina is not content to let Matters control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Medina fails with the takedown.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Medina looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pablo Medina. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Matters counters with a nice kick to the body.

Matters seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Matters is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Medina doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Matters.

Matters not landing any meaningful shots this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Matters is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Well, if Matters is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jon Matters comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Matters has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
