PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Dee BJ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bandz A Make Her Dance-Juicy J. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Dee BJ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Grant Ward!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
BJ slips a jab from Ward.
Ward scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Good standup being displayed there by Ward as he connects with a hook.
A slapping leg kick lands for Ward.
BJ tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ward manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

BJ closes the distance and clinches.
Ward lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Ward lands with a light punch inside.
BJ is trying to pull guard but Ward turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

BJ gets control of Ward's arms and successfully pulls guard. BJ will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Ward showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
BJ is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ward looking to pass the guard.

BJ has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ward can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ward stands and throws BJ's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Ward stands up and beckons BJ to his feet.
Ward lands with a kick to the temple. BJ shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
BJ moves in looking to clinch but Ward pushes him off.
Ward flicks out a counter leg kick but BJ steps away.
Ward lands a nice leg kick that just misses BJ's sensitive parts.
Ward connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Ward clinches up against the cage.
BJ tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ward creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through BJ's defenses.
BJ is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Ward to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Dee BJ. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
BJ throws a punch but it's blocked by Ward.
BJ tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
BJ is trying to pull guard but Ward has him pressed against the cage.
Ward looking to throw knees to the head but BJ is blocking nicely.

Ward's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
BJ tries to clinch up.
A little jabbing left from Ward on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

BJ fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ward, pushing him back against the cage.
BJ lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
BJ tries to pull guard but Ward forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Ward lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ward prevents a takedown attempt there.
Ward lands an uppercut.

Ward's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
BJ stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ward.
BJ fails in his attempt to clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

BJ forces Ward back against the cage and clinches.

BJ jumps guard.
We've been hearing good reports from BJ's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
BJ keeping full guard, as Ward tries to pass.
BJ is trying to hold Ward in close to prevent damage but Ward has managed to pass into half guard.
Ward is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
BJ makes his way to full guard. A much better position for BJ.

BJ escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ward gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ward engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ward pushing down on BJ's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Ward is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are battling for position here. BJ manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

BJ looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ward passes into half guard.
Ward passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for BJ!
BJ is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grant Ward dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


BJ misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ward avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
BJ is looking to clinch but Ward is avoiding it.
Ward scores with a push kick.
Ward has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as BJ is landing a low percentage of strikes.
BJ on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ward clinches up with BJ and pushes him back against the cage.
Ward looking to throw knees to the head but BJ is blocking nicely.
Ward with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
BJ jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ward walks away with a smile on his face. BJ gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ward lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
BJ wants to clinch up but Ward keeps it at a distance.
BJ misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
BJ wants to clinch but Ward slips to the side
and Ward counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Grant Ward seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A nice inside leg kick there by Ward. That's going to slow BJ down.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
BJ tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ward buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
BJ tries to clinch up but Ward circles away and keeps his distance.
Ward uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by BJ.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ward throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Ward moves into range and connects with a jab.
BJ shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ward as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Dee BJ. That's going to take a lot out of him.
BJ tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Ward connects with a high kick.


BJ is rocked!
BJ is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
BJ gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Ward gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! BJ is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Grant Ward!
An intense looking Grant Ward took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'Glad to come out victorious on my lightweight debut. Its nice to finally win back to back. Props to Jay Dee, he came out swinging tonight but there's no way im letting him get pass me. Thanks INSANITY for having me!'.
Jay Dee BJ spoke after the fight, saying 'The meaning of being a fighter is to give it all your best shot, and come back even stronger. This time I have lost, and I'm sorry for disappointing you all, but I promise to train harder and come back into the octagon next time an even better fighter.'.
