PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Bunting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Perrin Aybara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Bunting!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Perrin Aybara!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aybara throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bunting on the side of the head.
Bunting fails with the takedown.
Aybara ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bunting moves away.
Bunting uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Aybara.
Bunting goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bunting looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Aybara rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bunting counters with a low kick, right behind Aybara 's knee.
Bunting slips a straight right by Aybara.
Aybara moves out of range of the body kick from Bunting.
Bunting throws a head kick but Aybara moves out of range.
Aybara throws the left hand but Bunting avoids the punch easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aybara tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bunting paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bunting takes one on the button.
Bunting digs a good hook to Aybara's body.
Aybara takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A slow jab from Aybara misses its intended target.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bunting lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Aybara throws a jab when Bunting was well out of range.
Bunting fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Aybara.
Aybara missing with a left hand there. Bunting was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Aybara slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bunting connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Bunting ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Aybara catches Bunting with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Aybara has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Bunting uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aybara.

Oooh a lovely combination from Bunting sends Aybara down but not out. Bunting dives into side control looking to finish.


It looks like Perrin Aybara has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aybara is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bunting wants to take a breather but Aybara is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bunting is looking to take a break and control but Aybara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No joy there for Aybara, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Aybara doesn't manage to clinch there - Bunting circles away.
Bunting tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Aybara was well out of range. Poor timing from Bunting.
A telegraphed right hand from Aybara misses the target.

Bunting lands with a hook. Aybara tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Aybara takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Bunting walks into a left hand.
Bunting throws a body shot but no joy.
Aybara smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Bunting fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aybara manages to avoid it.
A jab lands there for Bunting.
Aybara walks straight into a right hand from Bunting - that's dropped him! Bunting jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Aybara from any more punishment! Aybara complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). John Bunting!
After winning the bout, John Bunting thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
