PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Inspectah Deck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshiro Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deck comes into the arena with Raekwon feat. Inspectah Deck, GZA-Guillotine (Swordz) blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Inspectah Deck!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoshiro Gomi!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Deck.
Deck takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gomi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Deck moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gomi throws a jab when Deck was well out of range.
Deck has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Nice uppercut lands for Gomi. That snapped Deck's head back.
Deck tries a head kick but it misses.
Gomi misses with a double jab.
Nice defenses there by Gomi.
A little jabbing left from Gomi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Gomi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Deck on his heels. He'll look to pass Deck's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gomi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Deck swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gomi has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Gomi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Deck was well out of range. Poor timing from Gomi.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Deck thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Gomi if he has to take too many more of those.

Deck tries to counter by clinching up but Gomi breaks away and moves out of range.

enabling Deck to counter with a crisp jab.
Yoshiro Gomi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomi tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Gomi drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Deck walks into a stiff left hand from Gomi.
Gomi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Deck uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gomi.
Deck lands with a slapping head kick.

and Gomi is countered with a crisp right hand from Deck that sends him to the canvas! Deck follows him to the mat into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Deck content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That was a close round but I would say that Inspectah Deck will probably get the nod.

Gomi sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Gomi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Deck's waist but Deck gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomi off to one side.

Deck fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Gomi gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gomi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Deck makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Gomi really felt that one!
Gomi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Deck.
That kick from Deck tenderised Gomi's leg. Gomi is trying to keep his angry face on.

Gomi throws a hook to the side of Deck's head but Deck sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Deck pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A punch lands to the side of Deck 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Deck swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Gomi has managed to clinch.
Gomi can't find room to land a body shot as Deck controls the action.

Deck is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gomi can do to turn this around?

Deck feints and then cracks Gomi's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gomi down.

Deck ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gomi moves away.
Deck misses with a straight left.
Deck moves out of range as Gomi strikes.

Gomi misses with a two punch combination.
Gomi slips a jab from Deck.
Gomi throws a predictable looking body shot
and Deck cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gomi shoots in looking for a takedown. Deck tries to sprawl out of it but Gomi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Deck manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Deck takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
