PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Shipwreck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brandon might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Catch Em By Surprise. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenny Brandon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Shipwreck!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shipwreck goes for a double leg but Brandon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brandon continues to drive forward.
Shipwreck gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Shipwreck takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Shipwreck moves forwards but Brandon connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Shipwreck shoots in and drives through. Brandon sprawls well.
Brandon was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Kenny Brandon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Shipwreck.

Brandon takes the fight into the clinch.

Brandon jumps guard and drags Shipwreck to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Brandon wants to sweep here but Shipwreck controlling him for the moment.
Shipwreck stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brandon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shipwreck postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brandon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shipwreck, into his guard.

Shipwreck is working an open guard so Brandon takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

It looks like Mike Shipwreck has been cut.

Brandon gets a clinch.

Brandon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kenny Brandon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Brandon clinches up against the cage.
Shipwreck tries for a takedown. No joy.

Brandon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brandon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shipwreck paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shipwreck fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shipwreck takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Brandon throws a quick inside leg kick.

Brandon has taken the fight to the clinch.

Brandon works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Shipwreck looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Shipwreck working for a triangle but Brandon defends it easily.

Shipwreck looking for subs off his back but Brandon has passed one foot through into half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shipwreck tries to roll over but Brandon keeps him under control.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brandon connects with a nice short shot to Shipwreck's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shipwreck is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brandon pulls his head out easily.

Brandon lands with a punch from half guard.
Brandon wants to take a breather but Shipwreck is having none of it.
Brandon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
We've been informed that Shipwreck has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shipwreck looking for submissions off his back.
Brandon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shipwreck's head.
Brandon thows a huge punch but Shipwreck dodges it nicely.
Brandon throwing shots but Shipwreck is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brandon sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shipwreck defending well though.
Brandon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Shipwreck tries to roll over but Brandon keeps him under control.

Shipwreck actively working from the bottom here.

Shipwreck looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Shipwreck is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brandon is pressing down on Shipwreck's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shipwreck is holding on for now.

Brandon scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Shipwreck looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Brandon is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny Brandon dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mike Shipwreck's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A decent looking cross lands there for Brandon.
Shipwreck dives in and grabs Brandon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brandon pushes down on Shipwreck's head and hops out.
Shipwreck takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Shipwreck dives in and scores a takedown into Brandon's guard.

Shipwreck has gone for a leg lock! Brandon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Shipwreck's guard.

Brandon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shipwreck works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Brandon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shipwreck is proving hard to escape from.
Shipwreck keeping moving, preventing Brandon from controlling successfully.

Shipwreck is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Brandon frees his head nicely. Oh but Shipwreck has switched to an armbar! Brandon is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
