Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Benson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyron Woodley!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benson moves out of range of the leg kick from Woodley.
An attempted straight right counter from Benson misses the target.
A telegraphed right hand from Woodley misses the target.
Benson avoids the head kick by Woodley.
Benson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Woodley throws a leg kick which misses Benson's front leg but catches the back leg as Benson tries to avoid it.
Woodley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Benson.
Benson looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Woodley misses with the body kick
and Benson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Woodley digs a good hook to Benson's body.

Benson sends Woodley crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Benson is motioning to the referee to let Woodley up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


Woodley is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Benson drops his hands momentarily and Woodley takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Woodley is still on wobbly legs! Can Benson finish him?
Benson throws a half hearted mid kick.
Woodley seems to have recovered his senses.
Benson scores with a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Benson on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Woodley scores with a crisp jab that stopped Benson in his tracks.
Woodley catches Benson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Woodley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Benson's waist but Benson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Woodley off to one side.
Woodley moves out of range as Benson throws a body kick.
Benson misses with a few strikes there.
Woodley throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Woodley has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Woodley fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Benson to the ground. Woodley is now in Benson's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Benson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woodley advances to full mount.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Woodley with shots to the head and body - Benson looks very uncomfortable down there.
Woodley connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Benson wants to hold on but Woodley pushes him away.
Benson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Woodley has his hands on Benson's head, controlling the position.

Woodley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Benson is aware though and is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woodley trying to keep a closed guard but Benson is proving a slippery customer.
Benson tries to free his leg and advance position but Woodley is retaining full guard.
Woodley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woodley is on top in guard.


Benson is looking to cinch up a triangle. Woodley throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Benson's body to avoid the submission. Benson has instead reached around Woodley's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Benson arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tony Benson!
