Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gio Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Bilkington!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avila throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bilkington's waist but Bilkington gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Avila off to one side.
Avila seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Avila looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bilkington is fending him off so far but Avila persists. Nope, Bilkington circles away and we're back to standing.
Bilkington unleashes a big counter combination but Avila bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Avila is defended easily by Bilkington.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gio Avila. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bilkington tries to close the distance and clinch but Avila swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Avila on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

and Avila counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Bilkington!
Bilkington is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Avila has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Avila is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bilkington knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Bilkington is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Avila tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Avila has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Avila is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bilkington knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Bilkington is trying to improve his position.

Avila tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bilkington tries to bench press Avila off him but Avila keeps the position.
Bilkington can't do much from the bottom here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Avila is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bilkington has escaped the position, nice work there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avila is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bilkington is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Avila has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Bilkington is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Avila yanks on the arm and Bilkington is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Avila.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gio Avila!
A relieved looking Gio Avila thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Bobby Bilkington had this to say: 'You Can't win them all, the better man won tonight. Next fight i'm gonna come out twice as hungry'.
