Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jermain Leaseau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen Don't Mean A Thing as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jermain Leaseau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leaseau goes for a double leg but Nelson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nelson continues to drive forward.
Jab, jab by Nelson - just one landing.


It looks like Jermain Leaseau has been cut.
Nelson connects with a jab.
Leaseau is looking to clinch.
Leaseau misses with a series of wild punches.
Nelson looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Nelson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Leaseau closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nelson's guard.
Nelson wants to stand but Leaseau is controlling the position.
Nelson keeping moving, preventing Leaseau from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nelson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Leaseau presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Nelson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Leaseau fails with a takedown attempt.
A combination from Leaseau does no damage.
Leaseau's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Nelson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Leaseau scrambles back to his feet.

Nelson is trying to control but Leaseau manages to pass to mount!

Nelson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Leaseau wants to control the pace but Nelson is squirming around nicely.

We've been hearing good reports from Leaseau's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That was a close round but I would say that Jermain Leaseau will probably get the nod.

Leaseau throws a right and a left that Nelson avoids nicely.

Leaseau is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nelson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Leaseau takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Leaseau shoots in looking for a takedown but Nelson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Leaseau's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nelson! But no joy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nelson lands with an uppercut that bounces Leaseau off the cage and back into range.

Leaseau shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Leaseau showed some decent athleticism there.

Nelson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Leaseau keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Nelson is trying to break free.
Leaseau is working for takedown but Nelson is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jermain Leaseau. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nelson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nelson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nelson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jermain Leaseau is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nelson scores with a one two! Leaseau had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


Jermain Leaseau's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Leaseau closes the distance and clinches up with Nelson, looking for a takedown. Leaseau pushes Nelson against the cage but Nelson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nelson wants to get back to his feet but Leaseau is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Leaseau postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nelson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Leaseau, into his guard.

Leaseau is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nelson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Leaseau is proving hard to escape from.
Nelson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Leaseau looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nelson is one step ahead there.

Leaseau is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Nelson is looking to work some ground and pound but Leaseau has wrist control.

Leaseau looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Leaseau lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Leaseau wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.
Leaseau trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nelson slaps away a takedown attempt from Leaseau, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Despite the aggression on Nelson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Nelson throws a left that rocks Leaseau and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Nelson dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Leaseau regain composure!

Leaseau is looking to reverse the position.

Nelson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nelson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nelson getting the better of the striking in that exchange.


Jeez, Jermain Leaseau's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jermain Leaseau's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Roy Nelson!
During a confident post fight interview, Roy Nelson thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
