Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Nicholas!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nicholas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patton's guard.
Patton wants to sweep but no luck.
Nicholas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Patton's guard.
Patton is trying to get back to full guard.

Nicholas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Patton sees it coming and defends easily.

Nicholas is looking for a kimura here.
Nicholas tries to pass to full mount but Patton defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nicholas is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Patton has managed to free his arm - good work.

Nicholas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Patton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Patton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Patton!

Nicholas tries to buck Patton off but Patton is having none of it.

Patton goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Nicholas has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Patton but great work by Nicholas.

Nicholas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Nicholas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Patton, who protects the arm well.

Nicholas goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Patton rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Nicholas's guard! Nice work there by Patton!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nicholas is proving hard to escape from.

Patton thows a huge punch but Nicholas dodges it nicely.

Nicholas shoots in and bounces Patton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Patton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Patton is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The fighters are battling for position here. Nicholas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Nicholas isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Patton stacks Nicholas on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Patton!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Nicholas looking for subs from the bottom but Patton mounts him!

Patton looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Nicholas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Nicholas looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Patton pushes past his half guard into mount!

The referee warns Nicholas that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Nicholas tries to reverse the position but Patton maintains control.
Nicholas gets back to half guard.

Nicholas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Patton defends it well.

Nicholas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Patton is just riding it out for now. Nicholas eventually gives up the hold.

Nicholas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
