PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kasey Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Punka Tuka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kasey Yang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Punka Tuka!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tuka gets the takedown into side control.
Yang tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tuka prevents Yang from escaping the position.
Tuka staying calm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yang is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yang wants to control but Tuka postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Yang's face as Tuka controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Yang is looking to clinch.

Yang clinches with his opponent.

Tuka manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Yang really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Tuka looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Tuka wants to stand up but Yang is controlling him.

Yang throws a big elbow that misses.

Tuka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yang can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Yang won't allow Tuka to get back to his feet.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Tuka has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Yang has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Tuka breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tuka throws a nice outside leg kick.

Yang gets caught flat footed, as Tuka shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Yang doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Yang will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Yang has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tuka is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Yang.
Yang seems a little lost for a moment, as Tuka dominates the positioning.
Yang sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Tuka is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Tuka is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yang doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tuka.
Yang is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Punka Tuka dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Yang fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tuka changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Tuka digs a good body shot into Yang's ribs.

Tuka moves into the clinch.
Tuka works on Yang's body with a couple of short punches.

Tuka manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Tuka has his hands on Yang's head, controlling the position.

Tuka is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yang defends well.
Tuka is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Yang lands a couple of elbows.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tuka holds on and takes a little breather.
Yang stops Tuka from standing up.
Tuka preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Yang throwing strikes from guard but Tuka blocks nicely.
Tuka pulls Yang in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Yang blocks a head kick by Tuka.

Tuka closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Tuka happy to just control the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tuka wants to control but Yang is keeping him busy.
Tuka happy to just control the position for now.
Yang tries to buck Tuka off but Tuka is having none of it.
Tuka tries to move into full mount but can't pass Yang's legs.
Yang is looking to reverse the position.

Tuka wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Yang, who protects the arm well.
Tuka controls the position from side control.
Yang tries to improve position but can't.
Tuka controlling the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Tuka tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tuka is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Yang has escaped the position, nice work there.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Tuka drives through with a takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Yang working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Tuka has passed into half guard!
Yang makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Yang.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Punka Tuka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Yang's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Tuka shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yang is trying to defend but Tuka finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Yang is not content to let Tuka control the position.
Tuka with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Tuka is trying to work for a kimura but Yang is defending well.
Yang slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Tuka wants to pass the guard but Yang is keeping the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Tuka stays in close to Yang's body and controls the position.

Tuka decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Tuka closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tuka lands in his opponent's guard.

Yang throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Tuka escapes and throws Yang's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Yang seems a little lost for a moment, as Tuka dominates the positioning.
Yang gets back to half guard.

Tuka is looking for a kimura here.
Tuka looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tuka wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yang keeps working.

Yang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tuka pulls his head out easily.

Yang looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Yang wants to control the action here but instead Tuka manages to pass to full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Punka Tuka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tuka controlling the pace for now.
Yang gets back to half guard.
Tuka with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tuka's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

And that's the end of the fight!
Punka Tuka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tuka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
