PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cedric Mcpherson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Wolfi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marco Wolfi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cedric Mcpherson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marco Wolfi!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wolfi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wolfi avoids the strikes from the bottom by Mcpherson.

Wolfi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mcpherson misses with a head kick.

Wolfi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mcpherson is trying to defend but Wolfi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mcpherson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wolfi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wolfi's back!
Mcpherson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wolfi tries to escape but Mcpherson has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wolfi just trying to survive but Mcpherson is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcpherson has the hooks in. Wolfi is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Wolfi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Wolfi wants to control his opponent's hands but Mcpherson gets his hands free.
Wolfi tries to roll but Mcpherson sticks to his back.
Mcpherson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Mcpherson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Wolfi can't escape the position.
Wolfi turns into Mcpherson and is now in his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mcpherson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wolfi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wolfi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mcpherson is looking for a triangle but Wolfi pushes his legs off easily.
Mcpherson is striking but Wolfi is not phased and passes to half guard.

Mcpherson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Wolfi escapes and throws Mcpherson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mcpherson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wolfi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wolfi stands and steps away. Mcpherson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Wolfi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mcpherson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wolfi is in Mcpherson's guard.

Mcpherson is not content to let Wolfi control the position.

Mcpherson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wolfi pulls his head out easily.

Mcpherson wants to get back to his feet but Wolfi is dominant here and he's now got Mcpherson's back!

Marco Wolfi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Mcpherson misses the jab.

Wolfi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcpherson's guard.

Wolfi decides to stand back up. Wolfi steps back and let's Mcpherson get back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcpherson enables Wolfi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcpherson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Wolfi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Wolfi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcpherson keeps working.
Wolfi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mcpherson is not content to let Wolfi control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Wolfi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Marco Wolfi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Wolfi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
