PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Slevin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burak Mihalev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slevin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is timber. Tony Slevin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Slevin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Burak Mihalev!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slevin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Slevin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Slevin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mihalev circles away quickly and effectively.
Slevin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mihalev stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Slevin cracks Mihalev with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Slevin looks to land a combination but Mihalev avoids it well.
Slevin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mihalev throws a right hand that Slevin ducks under and follows up with a left that Slevin also avoids with ease.
Mihalev misses with a hook
and Mihalev takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mihalev doesn't manage to clinch there - Slevin circles away.

Mihalev forces Slevin back against the cage and clinches.
Mihalev lands a left hand.

Mihalev lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Slevin backwards.
I was talking to Slevin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Slevin wants to break free but Mihalev has control.
Mihalev throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Slevin throws a punch but it's blocked by Mihalev.
Slevin lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Slevin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mihalev misses the jab.
Slevin takes one on the button.
Slevin swings for the body but Mihalev moves out of range.
Slevin throws a series of punches but Mihalev avoids them all with ease.
A decent looking cross lands there for Slevin.
Mihalev misses with a series of wild punches.
Tony Slevin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mihalev moves into range and connects with a jab.

Mihalev throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Mihalev fails to land with a series of punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Slevin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mihalev.
Mihalev has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mihalev there as he acknowledges the shot.
The fighters circling - Mihalev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Slevin seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Mihalev throws a series of punches but Slevin avoids them all with ease.
Slevin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mihalev manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Slevin on his heels. He'll look to pass Slevin's guard now, I'm sure.

Slevin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mihalev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mihalev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Slevin is looking for a triangle but Mihalev pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mihalev throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Slevin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That was a close round but I would say that Tony Slevin will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Slevin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mihalev has time to react.

As Mihalev looks to move away, Slevin throws a big counter combo bu Mihalev just gets out of the way.

Slevin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Slevin tries to bum rush Mihalev with a series of wild strikes but Mihalev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Slevin slaps away a takedown attempt from Mihalev, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Slevin was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Tony Slevin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Burak Mihalev.
Mihalev wants to clinch up but Slevin keeps it at a distance.

and Slevin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mihalev shoots for a double leg takedown but Slevin sprawls well. He's pushed Mihalev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fight stays on the outside here - Mihalev looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mihalev shoots in looking for a takedown. Slevin tries to sprawl out of it but Mihalev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Slevin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Slevin feints a jab promting Mihalev to slip. Slevin then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mihalev slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

It looks like Tony Slevin has been cut.
Slevin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Slevin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Slevin scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Slevin lands with a hook. Mihalev tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Mihalev has picked Slevin up - he's going for a ride! Mihalev dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mihalev working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Mihalev has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Slevin to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mihalev is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Slevin pulls down on the head and he's put Mihalev to sleep! This one is all over!
