PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between De Bruyne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avery has chosen Godspeed - Throwdown as his entrance music. The key to victory for De Bruyne has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, De Bruyne!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Avery!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruyne slips a straight right by Avery.
Bruyne throws a low kick but Avery moves out of range easily.
A jab lands there for Bruyne.
Avery looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Avery shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Good leg kick by Bruyne there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bruyne finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Avery lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Avery throws a shot from downtown. Bruyne moves away and avoids it.
Avery tries to move into range but Bruyne moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Avery, right into the meat.
We've been told by Bruyne's head coaches at Facebreaker Academy - Striking that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Avery misses with an uppercut. Bruyne saw that one coming.
Bruyne lunges at Avery with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Avery's hand.
A slow jab from Bruyne misses its intended target.
Avery's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bruyne connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Avery scrambles back to his feet.
Bruyne throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Avery now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
A solid body kick from Bruyne.

Avery bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bruyne on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bruyne tries to get out of the position.
Bruyne is trying to improve his position.
Bruyne is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Avery scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Avery not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ground and pound from Avery.
Avery throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Bruyne to regain full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Avery accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Avery lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Avery postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bruyne looking for a sweep. Not yet Bruyne, not yet.

Avery working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bruyne thows a left - swing and a miss!
De Bruyne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Avery connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Bruyne to the floor! Avery dives in looking for the finish!


Bruyne is rocked!


It looks like De Bruyne has been cut.
Avery not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Oh Bruyne is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bruyne makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bruyne.
Bruyne controls Avery momentarily but Avery frees himself.
Bruyne seems to have got his legs back now.
Avery won't allow Bruyne to get back to his feet.
Avery tries to free his leg and advance position but Bruyne is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Avery stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Bruyne.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A looping hook to the body misses from Avery. Bruyne does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bruyne jabs at Avery's body.
De Bruyne is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bruyne swings for the body but Avery moves out of range.
Bruyne is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Avery.
Bruyne is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Bruyne motions for Avery to come forward. Bruyne throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Bruyne ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Avery moves away.
Avery with the counter takedown but Bruyne avoids it easily.
Good leg kick by Bruyne there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that De Bruyne will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Avery drops his hands momentarily and Bruyne takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Bruyne throws a head kick that misses.
Bruyne swings for the body but Avery moves out of range.
Bruyne lands a nice shot to the body.
Bruyne throws a low kick, looking for Avery's leg but Avery calmly moves out of range.
Avery tries to land a front kick but Bruyne steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Bruyne turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Avery defending well as Bruyne loads up on a big left hand.

Bruyne uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Bruyne lands a right hook to the body.
Avery ducks right into an uppercut from Bruyne.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Avery.
Bruyne is looking for a sweep.
Avery misses with the ground and pound.
Bruyne avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Avery.
Avery in side control, throwing shots but Bruyne defends.
Bruyne is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Avery's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Bruyne wants to control but Avery is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Avery sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bruyne defending well though.
Avery is nestled in close to Bruyne, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sean Avery has got the better of the ground game so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bruyne is positioning himself well to prevent Avery advancing to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The fighters circle momentarily. Avery darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Avery throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bruyne counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Bruyne scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Bruyne throws a hook but Avery blocks it.
Avery replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Bruyne blocks it well.
Avery tries to move into range but Bruyne moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Bruyne looks to score with a jab to the body but Avery is just out of range.
Avery slips under a jab.
Bruyne throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bruyne swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bruyne misses with an uppercut.
Avery misses with a leg kick.
De Bruyne is winning the standup battle so far.
Bruyne throws a shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A cross from Bruyne lands.
Bruyne works the jab nicely.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Avery.
Bruyne misses the shot to the body.
Avery feints a counter leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bruyne thumps Avery with a low kick.
Bruyne fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Avery.
Avery throws a sloppy body shot
and Bruyne counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Avery throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Avery misses with a few strikes there.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bruyne.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

De Bruyne dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on De Bruyne's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bruyne lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Bruyne lands with a hook. Avery tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.


Avery is rocked!
Bruyne fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Avery to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Avery looks to clinch but Bruyne throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Avery taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). De Bruyne!
