PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rob Rex was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Crosby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Rex!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex misses with a wild combination.

Rex gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rex throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Rex is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Crosby is trying to pull guard but Rex turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Rex lands with a short punch from the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rex blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Crosby is trying to pull guard but Rex has him pressed against the cage.

Crosby working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rex doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rex manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Crosby is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rex defends well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Crosby throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Crosby looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Rex drives through and clinches with Crosby against the cage.

Rex escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crosby on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Rex throws a series of punches but Crosby avoids them all with ease.

Crosby moves into the clinch.

Rex pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rex throws a right and a left that both miss.
Crosby throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Crosby moves out of range of the body kick from Rex.
Crosby throws a right hand that Rex ducks under and follows up with a left that Rex also avoids with ease.
Crosby lands a nice looking body shot.
Rex tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Crosby paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Crosby feinted with a counter takedown.
Rex looks winded!
Rex throws a right and a left that Crosby avoids nicely.
Crosby tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Rex manages to circle out of the way.
Rex is looking to clinch but Crosby is avoiding it.
A shot to the liver by Rex. Beautiful body shot.
Rex moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Crosby forces Rex back against the cage and clinches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Crosby decides to pull guard.
Crosby is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rex is controlling him.
Rex content to stall in guard here.
Crosby avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Rex dominated that round.
That's time! Crosby's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rex feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Crosby's calf.
Rex tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It looked like Crosby was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Rex misses with a wild combination.
Crosby half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Crosby fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rex, pushing him back against the cage.
Crosby tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rex just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rex's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Crosby closes the distance and pushes Rex back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Crosby escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rob Rex seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rex throws a series of punches but Crosby moves out of range.

and Crosby counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rex!
Rex is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Crosby tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crosby has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crosby sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rex is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rex wants to control but Crosby postures up.
Rex is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rex moves in looking to clinch but Crosby pushes him off.
Crosby misses with a head kick.
Rex steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Crosby.
Crosby dodges the punch combination from Rex.

Rex fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Crosby has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Carlos Crosby is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rex misses with a straight left.
Rex defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Crosby.
Rex throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Crosby jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rex walks away with a smile on his face. Crosby gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Some wild striking there from Rex.
A right-left combo lands from Rex.
Crosby scores with a head kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Crosby tries a head kick but it misses.
Crosby lands with a shot to the body.
A combination from Rex does no damage.
Rob Rex seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Crosby tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rex was well out of range. Poor timing from Crosby.
Crosby avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Crosby dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sloppy strikes from Rex. Those never looked like landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Carlos Crosby will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Rex unleashes a big counter combination but Crosby bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Crosby jumps guard but Rex stands there with Crosby around his waist. Crosby gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Rex breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rex tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Crosby paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Crosby takes a swing at Rex's ribcage but misses.

Rex throws a head kick that misses.
Crosby lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rex backs up against the cage.
Rex tries to bum rush Crosby with a series of wild strikes but Crosby uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Crosby lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Rex at a distance.
Crosby blocks a head kick by Rex.
Crosby throws a series of punches but Rex avoids them all with ease.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Crosby rushes Rex and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Crosby moves into the clinch.
Crosby tries to pull guard but Rex holds him up against the cage and eventually Crosby drops back down to his feet.

Rex's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Crosby shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rex buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Crosby is looking to wear down Rex with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Crosby has managed to clinch.

Rex escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rex fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rex is looking to clinch but Crosby is avoiding it.

Crosby moves into the clinch successfully.
Crosby tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rex smiles and moves away.
Rex misses with an uppercut

and Crosby counters by clinching up.
Crosby fails to pull guard.
Crosby is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rex to keep the fight standing.

Rex thuds a left hand into Crosby's body.
Rex tries to land a leg kick but Crosby saw it coming and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rob Rex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rex has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
