PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Overeem there as he acknowledges the shot.
Overeem takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Smith.
Smith misses with a head kick.
Overeem tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Smith throws a good cross that connects.
Overeem throws an overhand right that lands on Smith's shoulder, as Smith tries to avoid the shot.
Smith throws a big counter combination but Overeem scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Smith wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Overeem looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


It looks like Peter Overeem has been cut.
Smith is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Overeem misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Overeem with a poor takedown
and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Smith with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Overeem takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Smith explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Overeem looks winded!
Overeem dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Overeem's head and hops out.
John Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Overeem.
A jab from Overeem misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith lands a left and a right that send Overeem crashing to the mat, dazed. Smith thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Overeem is rocked!
Overeem finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Smith's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Overeem falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Smith!
John Smith seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
