Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Okkuke Jiizu Okunaba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pernell Karl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Okkuke Jiizu Okunaba had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Okkuke Jiizu Okunaba!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pernell Karl!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okunaba fails with the takedown
and Karl counters with a straight right hand.
Karl looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Karl gets caught napping as Okunaba dives in and scores a takedown. Karl manages to retain guard.
Okunaba controls from within his opponent's guard.
Okunaba postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Okunaba chips away with some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Okunaba is looking to work some ground and pound but Karl has wrist control.
Okunaba tries to free his leg and advance position but Karl is retaining full guard.
Okunaba throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Karl works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karl can do anything to dispel that myth.
Okunaba is taking a breather. Karl says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Okunaba frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Karl really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Okunaba. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Okunaba cracks Karl with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Karl is in a horrible position here. Okunaba smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Okunaba lands a couple of good shots and Karl has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Okunaba is punishing Karl with some ground and pound.

Karl is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Okunaba off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Karl is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Okunaba lands a shot to the body.

Okunaba is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Karl knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Karl for a finish.

Okunaba shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Karl but Karl pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Karl scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Okunaba doesn't seem bothered though.
Okunaba moves out of range as Karl strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Okunaba fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Okunaba shoots in looking for a takedown but Karl manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Okunaba's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Okkuke Jiizu Okunaba. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Okunaba shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Karl pinned against the cage. Karl gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Okkuke Jiizu Okunaba will probably get the nod.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Okunaba is trying to work for a kimura but Karl is defending well.
Okunaba throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Okunaba ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Karl throws a right hand that Okunaba ducks under and follows up with a left that Okunaba also avoids with ease.
Karl will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Karl lands a body shot.
Karl lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Karl scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A solid leg kick lands there for Karl.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karl throws a body punch but Okunaba moves out of range.
Okunaba appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close third round but Pernell Karl just about did enough to take it.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Karl connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Okunaba's hands.
Karl swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Okunaba shoots in looking for a takedown. Karl tries to sprawl out of it but Okunaba keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Karl manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Donk. Karl catches Okunaba right on the button with a cross.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Okunaba uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Karl.
Okunaba misses with a shot to the body
enabling Karl to counter with a crisp jab.


Okunaba is rocked!

Karl drops Okunaba with a naaaaasty hook - Okunaba is in real trouble here! Karl dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

A less than humble Pernell Karl misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
