PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Budak Poyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Betty Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Budak Poyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Betty Cannon!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poyo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cannon tries to avoid it but Poyo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cannon to the ground. Cannon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cannon throws a body punch but Poyo moves out of range.
Cannon fails with the takedown

and Poyo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Poyo is keen to just control but Cannon is a slippery customer.
Cannon is trying to stand.
Cannon flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Cannon wants to get back to full guard but Poyo has passed into side control.
Poyo lands a few punches from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Poyo works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Poyo tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Cannon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Poyo is working Cannon over with some ground and pound from side control.

Poyo slows the pace down.
Poyo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Poyo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Poyo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cannon keeps working.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Check out the look on Poyo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Poyo lands a decent elbow from side control.
Poyo wants to control but Cannon is keeping him busy.
Poyo lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poyo tries to stand but Cannon is controlling his head.
Poyo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cannon keeps working.

Poyo is trying to get an arm triangle but Cannon is defending well.
Poyo lands a decent elbow from side control.
Cannon struggling a bit here.
Poyo landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cannon is looking to control Poyo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cannon avoid being mounted?
Cannon is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Poyo is staying active.
Poyo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cannon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Cannon is looking to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cannon is defending against the submission attempts here by Poyo.
Cannon flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Budak Poyo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cannon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Poyo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Cannon prevents the takedown attempt.

Poyo pulls guard.
Poyo pulls Cannon in close to his closed guard and prevents Cannon from doing any damage or advancing position.

Poyo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cannon's head.
Poyo lands a couple of digs.
Cannon keeping moving, preventing Poyo from controlling successfully.

Cannon working for a triangle but Poyo defends it easily.
Poyo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Poyo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Poyo trying to control but Cannon is working from the bottom.

Poyo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cannon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cannon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cannon!

You can see the frustration on Poyo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cannon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Poyo keeps working.
Cannon tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Cannon trying to control the position but Poyo is working away.
An elbow from Cannon crashes against the mat.
Poyo can't do much from the bottom here.
Poyo tries to improve position but can't.
Poyo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Poyo is trying is best to control the position here.
Budak Poyo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Cannon is thwarting Poyo's attempts to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Poyo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cannon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Poyo somewhat.

Cannon takes the fight into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Poyo misses with a knee to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Budak Poyo will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Poyo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Cannon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Cannon is looking for a sweep. Poyo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Poyo wants to take a breather but Cannon is having none of it.
Cannon is trying to get back to full guard.
Poyo is nestled in close to Cannon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Poyo lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Poyo slips a nice elbow through Cannon's hands, connecting with Cannon's forehead.
Poyo wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Cannon uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Poyo postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Poyo cracks Cannon with a solid left hand.
Cannon throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Poyo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Poyo is looking to stand up but Cannon won't let him.
Cannon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Poyo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cannon's head.
Poyo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Poyo chips away with some ground and pound.
Poyo wants to get up but he can't break Cannon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Poyo wants to control from the top but Cannon keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Poyo misses with a body shot.

Poyo feints and as Cannon raises his hands in defense, Poyo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Poyo postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Budak Poyo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poyo won't allow Cannon to sweep him here.
Cannon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Poyo is stalling in the full guard.
Poyo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Poyo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Poyo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cannon for as long as he can get away with.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cannon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Poyo preventing the sweep.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Poyo keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cannon.

Cannon closes the distance and clinches.
Cannon can't break the clinch.
Poyo changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cannon fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cannon has managed to clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Budak Poyo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Poyo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
