Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Maldonado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Roche (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hans Maldonado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Roche!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maldonado showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Roche.
Maldonado attempts a counter takedown but Roche avoids it well and moves away.

and Roche counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Roche tries to keep at a distance but Maldonado has taken the fight into the clinch.

Roche manages to break the clinch.

Roche closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Maldonado to the mat! Maldonado manages to get full guard.

It looks like Roche might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Maldonado preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Roche is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roche controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Maldonado misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ryan Roche seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roche is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Maldonado's half guard.
Roche content to control rather than advance.
Roche is continuing to stall.
Maldonado looks like he's trying to stand up.

Roche is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Maldonado has managed to free his arm - good work.

Roche slows the pace down in half guard.

Maldonado has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Roche is on him like a limpet, forcing Maldonado back against the cage.
Maldonado tries to land knees in the clinch but Roche avoids the damage to the body.

Roche wants the takedown. Maldonado is fighting it off but Roche persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Maldonado's guard against the cage.
Roche advances to half guard.

Maldonado is defending against the submission attempts here by Roche.
Roche seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maldonado does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Roche decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A head kick from Maldonado lands but Roche takes it in his stride.

Roche with the ground and pound but Maldonado regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roche decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Roche is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Roche manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Roche pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Maldonado looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Roche shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Roche showed some decent athleticism there.

Ryan Roche has got the better of the ground game so far.
Well, if Roche is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Roche is looking to take a break and control but Maldonado is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ryan Roche showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Roche closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Maldonado is looking to reverse the position.
Roche remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Roche passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Maldonado!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maldonado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Maldonado tries to hold on but Roche postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roche looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Roche throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roche can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Maldonado is looking to escape.

Roche is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Maldonado has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Maldonado!

Roche throws his legs up looking for a submission but Maldonado uses it to pass to side control.

Maldonado decides to stand back up. Maldonado steps back and let's Roche get back to his feet.

A slow jab from Maldonado misses its intended target.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Roche misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Roche lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Maldonado gets caught napping as Roche dives in and scores a takedown. Maldonado manages to retain guard.
Roche takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Roche passes into half guard.
Maldonado blocking the ground and pound attempt from Roche.
Maldonado pushes Roche off looking to stand but Roche dives back in and keeps control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roche takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Roche looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Roche comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Roche winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
