PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derick Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Einar Magn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magn misses with a body shot.
A little feinted left hand from Rose on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rose throws an off balance right hand
and Rose takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rose lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Magn gets caught napping as Rose dives in and scores a takedown. Magn manages to retain guard.
Rose is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Boston MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Rose drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rose jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rose sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Magn's guard.

Magn is refusing to be controlled, as Rose sits in half guard.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Magn enables Rose to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Magn manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rose uses his free foot to push down on Magn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Magn.

Rose jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Magn is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Magn and Rose has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Rose fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Magn tries to bench press Rose off him but Rose keeps the position.

Magn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rose. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rose is really struggling to control Magn but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's time! Rose's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Rose tries to close the distance and clinch but Magn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Derick Rose seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rose changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Magn tries to avoid it but Rose manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Magn to the ground. Magn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rose wants to break free but Magn has control.

Rose goes for a takedown attempt but Magn pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rose uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Magn.

It looks like Derick Rose has been cut.

Magn creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rose's defenses.
Rose avoids a wild elbow strike from Magn.

Rose works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Rose thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Einar Magn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rose works the jab nicely.
Rose shoots in looking for a takedown but Magn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rose's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Einar Magn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rose throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Magn's waist but Magn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rose off to one side.
Rose bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Magn cracks Rose with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Rose closes the distance and clinches up with Magn, looking for a takedown. Rose pushes Magn against the cage but Magn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Magn uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rose.
Magn steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rose.
Rose avoids the body shot from Magn.

and Rose counters with a nice double leg into side control. Magn won't be happy with that.

I would just about give that final round to Einar Magn.
