PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eryk Bartnik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Chiaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eryk Bartnik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jeff Chiaro!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chiaro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bartnik was covering up waiting for the punch and Chiaro finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Chiaro stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Chiaro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bartnik as he avoids it easily.

Bartnik has Chiaro up against the cage in a clinch.
Bartnik working hard to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bartnik prevents a takedown attempt there.

Bartnik manages to break the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bartnik enables Chiaro to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bartnik manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Chiaro decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Chiaro shoots in for a double leg but Bartnik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Eryk Bartnik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Chiaro.
Bartnik throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Chiaro lands with a hook. Bartnik tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Chiaro shoots for a double leg takedown but Bartnik sprawls well. He's pushed Chiaro's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bartnik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chiaro scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Bartnik pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Chiaro looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Chiaro decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Bartnik tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Chiaro wants to control but instead Bartnik manages to regain half guard.

Chiaro is trying to work for a kimura but Bartnik is defending well.
Bartnik keeping control of the position.
Chiaro wants to take a breather but Bartnik is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chiaro wants to pass the guard but Bartnik is defending well.
Chiaro keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Chiaro is thwarting Bartnik's attempts to control the position.
Chiaro winds up and cracks Bartnik with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Chiaro wants to control but Bartnik is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jeff Chiaro will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chiaro instigates a clinch.
Chiaro is trying to pull guard but Bartnik turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Chiaro keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bartnik's efforts to push away.
Bartnik gets underhooks to prevent Chiaro's takedown attempt.

Bartnik breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chiaro fails to land the takedown.
As Chiaro looks to move away, Bartnik throws a big counter combo bu Chiaro just gets out of the way.
Eryk Bartnik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Chiaro.
Bartnik throws a head kick but Chiaro moves out of range.
Bartnik connects with a high kick.

Chiaro closes the distance and clinches.

Bartnik tries to circle away but Chiaro has him pinned against the cage.

Chiaro jumps guard and drags Bartnik to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Chiaro wants to get back to his feet but Bartnik is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bartnik won't allow Chiaro to sweep him here.

Bartnik is looking to stand up but Chiaro won't let him.
Chiaro doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bartnik trying to stand up but can't free himself from Chiaro's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eryk Bartnik is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chiaro shoots in and drives through. Bartnik sprawls well.

Bartnik gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Chiaro slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bartnik not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Chiaro wants to pass the guard but Bartnik is keeping the position.
Chiaro throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bartnik is refusing to be controlled, as Chiaro sits in half guard.
Chiaro content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Chiaro avoids the head kick by Bartnik.
Chiaro throws a counter combo.

Chiaro bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bartnik stops Chiaro from passing to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bartnik can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Chiaro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Bartnik's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Chiaro closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bartnik to the mat! Bartnik manages to get full guard.

Bartnik is looking for a triangle but Chiaro pushes his legs off easily.

Chiaro gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bartnik just misses with a punch to the body.
Chiaro slips a jab and a cross from Bartnik.
Chiaro blocks a head kick by Bartnik.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Some wild striking there from Bartnik.
Chiaro cracks Bartnik with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Bartnik throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Bartnik throws a head kick but Chiaro moves out of range.

Chiaro gets a double leg takedown into Bartnik's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chiaro looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Chiaro has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chiaro's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Chiaro trying to control the position from guard on top but Bartnik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bartnik has control of Chiaro's left arm, preventing Chiaro from doing any damage.
Chiaro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bartnik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chiaro is pushing down on Bartnik's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bartnik is fighting to maintain full guard but Chiaro has managed to sneak the leg through.
Chiaro thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Chiaro looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Chiaro looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bartnik!

Chiaro decides to stand up, so the ref orders Bartnik to his feet.
Chiaro throws a right hand that Bartnik ducks under and follows up with a left that Bartnik also avoids with ease.
Chiaro tries for a takedown but Bartnik sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bartnik throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chiaro drives through with a takedown into Bartnik's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Chiaro is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Eryk Bartnik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jeff Chiaro is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chiaro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Jeff Chiaro comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Chiaro winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
