PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weidman comes to the cage accompanied by King Fantastic- West Coast Synthesizer . Duke Richard is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Duke Richard!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman fails with a takedown attempt.
Richard changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Weidman dives in for a single leg takedown but Richard sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
We've been hearing reports that Weidman has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Weidman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Richard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Weidman somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Weidman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Weidman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Weidman wants it to stay on the feet.

Weidman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Richard shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Weidman is trying to defend but Richard finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

It seemed like Richard was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Richard drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Weidman looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Richard puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Richard wants to pass to mount but Weidman is defending the position.

Richard is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Weidman sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Weidman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Weidman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Richard is working away from the top position though.

Weidman goes for a double leg but Richard avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Richard continues to drive forward.

Weidman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Richard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Weidman has managed to get both his arms back between Richard's legs - danger averted.

Weidman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Richard is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Weidman, into his guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Richard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Weidman keeps working.
Weidman is trying to improve his position.
Duke Richard has got the better of the ground game so far.
Weidman regains half guard, as Richard was trying to land strikes.
Richard is pressing down on Weidman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Weidman is holding on for now.

Richard looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Weidman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Richard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

It seemed like Richard was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Duke Richard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Richard has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
