The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shango closes the distance and clinches up with Hiebknecht, looking for a takedown. Shango pushes Hiebknecht against the cage but Hiebknecht circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Shango has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hiebknecht uses from the top position.

Shango controls Hiebknecht momentarily but Hiebknecht frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Shango has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shango takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Shango shoots for a double leg takedown but Hiebknecht sprawls well. He's pushed Shango's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shango drops his hands momentarily and Hiebknecht takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Shango shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hiebknecht as he avoids it easily.
Hiebknecht was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Gottlieb Hiebknecht has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Papa Shango.

Hiebknecht circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Shango to the canvas! Shango doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Hiebknecht keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
