Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Oppelaar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gunnar Nelson!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Oppelaar paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Oppelaar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nice defenses there by Oppelaar.
Oppelaar shoots in for a takedown but Nelson shows good takedown defense.

Oppelaar gets a takedown into half guard.
Oppelaar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nelson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Nelson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Oppelaar is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oppelaar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've been hearing good reports from Oppelaar's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Nelson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oppelaar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oppelaar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nelson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Oppelaar stacks Nelson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Oppelaar!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Nelson enables Oppelaar to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nelson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Oppelaar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nelson can do to turn this around?
