Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Craig Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuya Shimizu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson comes to the cage accompanied by The High Road. Shimizu has chosen Negative - Still Alive as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yuya Shimizu!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Yuya Shimizu has been cut.
Shimizu misses with a lunging right hand

and Anderson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Shimizu!
You can see the frustration on Shimizu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Anderson tries to advance to mount but Shimizu denies him.

Anderson tries for a kimura but Shimizu is defending well.
Shimizu is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shimizu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Anderson.

Anderson is pressing down on Shimizu's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shimizu is holding on for now.
Anderson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shimizu's head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shimizu has his hands clasped together around Anderson's back. He's all about the action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Shimizu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Anderson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Anderson wants to free his trapped foot but Shimizu is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Anderson seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Anderson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Anderson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Shimizu swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Shimizu throws an off balance right hand
and Anderson counters with an inside leg kick.
Yuya Shimizu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Shimizu tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A telegraphed right hand from Anderson misses the target.
Anderson jabs Shimizu to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Shimizu is looking to clinch but Anderson is avoiding it.

Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shimizu as he jumps to the side.
Shimizu tries to counter with a clinch but Anderson shakes him off and moves away.

Shimizu ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anderson moves away.

Sloppy strikes from Shimizu. Those never looked like landing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shimizu gets tackled into the cage by Anderson. Anderson maintains the clinch.
Shimizu blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Anderson is trying to maintain a safe position but Shimizu gets an underhook and turns Anderson into the cage.
Anderson lands a hook to the side of the head.
Shimizu tries to throw a body punch but Anderson avoids it by throwing Shimizu back against the cage.

Shimizu lands a hook that snaps the head of Anderson backwards.
Shimizu misses with a punch on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Shimizu throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Anderson.

Shimizu throws a nice outside leg kick.
Craig Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Anderson drives through and clinches with Shimizu against the cage.

Anderson tries a knee to the head but Shimizu blocks it.

Anderson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shimizu after a bit of a struggle.

Anderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shimizu's waist but Shimizu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anderson off to one side.

Anderson has Shimizu pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Anderson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Shimizu tumbling to the mat - Anderson dives into Shimizu's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anderson tries to free his leg and advance position but Shimizu is retaining full guard.

Anderson wants to pass the guard but Shimizu is defending well.
Anderson is taking a breather. Shimizu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Anderson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Shimizu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shimizu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Anderson is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Yuya Shimizu will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Anderson shoots in and bounces Shimizu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Anderson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Shimizu is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Anderson, into his guard.

Shimizu lands a leg kick that knocks Anderson off balance momentarily.
Shimizu finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Anderson appears to be looking for a big counter.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Shimizu.

Shimizu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Anderson.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Anderson.
Shimizu throws a series of strikes that have Anderson backpedaling.
Anderson blocks a head kick by Shimizu.
Shimizu feints a jab promting Anderson to slip. Shimizu then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Anderson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shimizu avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Anderson throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Shimizu counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Anderson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A bone on bone clash there as Shimizu blocks the leg kick.
Anderson fails with the takedown
and Shimizu counters with a slapping leg kick.
Shimizu throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Anderson attempts a counter takedown but Shimizu avoids it well and moves away.

Anderson throws a lazy head kick
and Shimizu counters with a left and a right that stings Anderson.


Craig Anderson's cut is getting worse.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Anderson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shimizu has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shimizu and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Anderson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shimizu is trying to defend but Anderson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Anderson throws a big right hand that misses.
Shimizu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Shimizu keeping moving, preventing Anderson from controlling successfully.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Anderson appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Anderson throws a leg kick but Shimizu sees it coming and checks it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yuya Shimizu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shimizu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Yuya Shimizu was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
