George has chosen Popular-Nada Surf as his entrance music. Ricardo Monteban could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Paul George's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Monteban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul George!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monteban swats away the attempt to clinch by George.

Monteban drives through with a takedown into George's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Monteban thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
George tries to buck Monteban off but Monteban is having none of it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Monteban tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Monteban has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
George is trying to improve his position.

George takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

George tries to roll over but Monteban keeps him under control.
George is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Monteban tries to pass the half guard into mount. George knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
George is looking for a sweep. Monteban is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've been informed that George has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
George is still trying to improve position.
Monteban trying to mount his opponent but George defends it.

George is defending against the submission attempts here by Monteban.
Monteban wants to pass the guard but George is defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
George wants to get back to full guard but Monteban has passed into side control.
George manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Monteban is trying to control the action in half guard but George is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Monteban looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Monteban passes the guard and advances to mount!
Monteban wants to take George's back but he can't do it this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Monteban is in the full mount, landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



George closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Monteban's guard.
Monteban lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Monteban avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
George controls Monteban momentarily but Monteban frees himself.
Monteban is pushing down on George's leg trying to pass to half guard. George is fighting to maintain full guard but Monteban has managed to sneak the leg through.

Monteban is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! George is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

After the fight, Ricardo Monteban was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
