PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Big Hoss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex has chosen Godsmack - Cryin' Like A Bitch as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rob Rex is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Hoss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Rex!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rex looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Some wild striking there from Rex.

Hoss takes the fight into the clinch.
Rex wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Rex manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoss shoots in for a takedown but Rex shows good takedown defense.
Hoss lands a nice looking body kick.
Hoss is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rex sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rex shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hoss sprawls well. Hoss wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rex gets slowly back to his feet.

Hoss tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rex defends well and Hoss ends up having to push Rex into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Hoss feints and as Rex raises his hands in defense, Hoss changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rex is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hoss is controlling him.
Hoss wants to control from the top but Rex keeps moving.

Hoss drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hoss jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rex wants to stand up but Hoss is controlling him.
Rex is trying to control the position but Hoss postures up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rex being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hoss looks for a takedown but Rex sprawls well.
Rex walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rex throws a shot to the body.
Good work by Hoss as he checks the leg kick.
Hoss seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hoss looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rob Rex seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rex jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hoss lands a nice looking kick to the body. Rex takes a step back to recover.
Hoss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rex sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hoss somewhat.
We've been informed that Rex has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Rex tries to clinch but Hoss moves out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rex lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Hoss darts in looking for a takedown but Rex gets double underhooks and turns Hoss into the cage.

Hoss darts in and clinches Rex up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Big Hoss will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sloppy strikes from Rex. Those never looked like landing.
Hoss shoots in looking for a takedown. Rex tries to sprawl out of it but Hoss keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rex manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hoss moves into the clinch.
Rex has had enough of the clinch but Hoss keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hoss jumps guard and drags Rex to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Hoss pushes Rex off and scrambles back to his feet.
Hoss is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rex can do to turn this around?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hoss fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A solid leg kick lands there for Rex.

Hoss looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rex is trying to stand up here but Hoss is controlling him well.
Rex slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rex is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hoss is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hoss tries to free his leg and advance position but Rex is retaining full guard.
Hoss prevents Rex from getting back to his feet.
Hoss trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rex is looking to stand up but Hoss isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Rex shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hoss moves into range and clinches up with Rex.
Hoss tries to pull guard but Rex won't allow it.

Rex pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hoss moves into the clinch.
Hoss wants a takedown but no success here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hoss is trying to pull guard but Rex turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Rex pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
No joy there for Rex, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rex takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Rex pushes Hoss up against the cage in a clinch.

Rex's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rex misses with a few strikes there.
Rex fails with an attempt to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rex swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hoss throws a sloppy head kick and Rex moves out of range easily.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Rex!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Big Hoss will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Rex lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Rex tries to close the distance and clinch but Hoss swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hoss clinches.
Hoss is looking for a takedown.

Hoss jumps guard.
Hoss throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rex loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rex wants to stand but Hoss is controlling his posture from full guard.
Hoss looking to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rex working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hoss is looking for a triangle here but Rex uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Hoss tries to bench press Rex off him but Rex keeps the position.
Hoss can't do much from the bottom here.
Rex remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rex stuns Hoss with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
No joy there for Rex, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rex throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hoss throws a wild body kick that Rex sees coming a mile off.
Hoss misses with a takedown attempt - Rex sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hoss clinches.
Hoss content to slow the pace in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hoss breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hoss takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Rex throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hoss shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rex manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hoss stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rex swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rex pushes Hoss off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Hoss showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rex.
Hoss shoots in for a takedown but Rex shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Hoss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hoss drives through and clinches with Rex against the cage.

Rex breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rex throws a chopping leg kick but Hoss manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Rex moves in looking to clinch but Hoss pushes him off.

Hoss shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Big Hoss overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hoss wants to advance to full mount but Rex doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Rob Rex.
I think Hoss has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
