PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodrick Riddle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruiser Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodrick Riddle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bruiser Barnes!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Riddle enables Barnes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Riddle manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Riddle looking for a sweep. Not yet Riddle, not yet.
Barnes controlling from the top position.
Riddle lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Riddle drops back looking for a leg! Barnes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Barnes manages to kick Riddle off! Riddle jumps back into Barnes's guard.
Riddle with a flurry of punches that miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Riddle is in close to Barnes's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Barnes throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Riddle is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Riddle drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Barnes dives on top into guard.

Barnes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Riddle's head.

Barnes tries to stand but Riddle is controlling from the bottom.
Barnes stops Riddle from standing up.
Riddle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Barnes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Barnes wants to control from the top but Riddle keeps moving.
Riddle controls Barnes momentarily but Barnes frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barnes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Barnes wants to pass the guard but Riddle is keeping the position.

Riddle pushes Barnes off and scrambles back to his feet.

Barnes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Barnes stands and throws Riddle's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Riddle is trying to control Barnes's posture but Barnes avoids it.
Riddle is breathing heavily.
Barnes happy to just control the position for now.
Riddle is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Barnes off and has taken his back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Barnes trying to control the hands but Riddle won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Barnes darts in looking for a takedown but Riddle gets double underhooks and turns Barnes into the cage.
Riddle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barnes tries to avoid it but Riddle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barnes to the ground. Barnes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Barnes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Riddle.
Riddle throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barnes's waist but Barnes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Riddle off to one side.
Barnes tries for a takedown but Riddle sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck for Riddle with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrick Riddle. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Riddle gets caught flat footed, as Barnes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Barnes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Barnes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Riddle pulls Barnes in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riddle wants to improve his position but instead Barnes has moved into half guard.

Barnes seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Barnes slips a nice elbow through Riddle's hands, connecting with Riddle's forehead.
Barnes wants to stand up but Riddle is controlling the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Riddle won't allow Barnes to pass to mount.

Barnes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Riddle has managed to free his arm - good work.
Riddle is trying to get back to full guard.
Barnes wants to control but Riddle is keeping him busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Barnes fails with the takedown.
Barnes tries to close the distance and clinch but Riddle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Barnes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Riddle.

Riddle dives in and scores a takedown into Barnes's guard.
Barnes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Riddle is controlling him.

Riddle missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Barnes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Riddle defends it easily.
Barnes has momentary wrist control but Riddle slips an elbow through the middle.

Barnes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Riddle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Barnes fails with the takedown
and Riddle counters with a head kick.
Barnes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Riddle sprawls well. Riddle wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barnes gets slowly back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Riddle shoots in for a takedown but Barnes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Bruiser Barnes will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Barnes.

Barnes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Riddle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Riddle tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barnes looks up at the clock and then as Riddle takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Barnes smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Barnes is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Riddle will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Barnes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Riddle manages to work his way to half guard, despite Barnes's best efforts.
Barnes slips a nice elbow through Riddle's hands, connecting with Riddle's forehead.
Barnes is pressing down on Riddle's thigh, looking to free his foot. Riddle is holding on for now.

Barnes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Riddle tries to kick Barnes off but Barnes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Still in half guard, Barnes seems content to control.

Barnes has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Riddle works to full guard.
Riddle throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Riddle is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Barnes presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Barnes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Riddle smiles and moves away.
Nice takedown defense from Barnes. No joy for Riddle on that attempt.
Riddle fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barnes avoids it really well and circles away.

Barnes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barnes slowing the pace effectively.

Riddle is fighting off a takedown attempt but Barnes is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Riddle to the mat. Riddle regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Bruiser Barnes has got the better of the ground game so far.
Barnes wants to control from the top but Riddle keeps moving.
Barnes postures up.
Riddle is looking to stand up but Barnes isn't so interested in that idea.
Barnes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Riddle is proving hard to escape from.
Riddle is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Riddle goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Barnes has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Riddle but great work by Barnes.
Rodrick Riddle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bruiser Barnes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Riddle pushes Barnes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Barnes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruiser Barnes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barnes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
