The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souza shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stevens is trying to defend but Souza finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Souza wants to control but Stevens is keeping him busy.

Stevens wants to improve his position but Souza is controlling well.
Stevens trying to hold on to Souza's head to control him but Souza postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stevens enables Souza to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stevens manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Souza wanted to stand there but Stevens had control of the position.

Souza wants to pass to mount but Stevens is defending the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Souza takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown but Souza shows good takedown defense.

Souza shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Souza was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Stevens prevents Souza from moving into mount.
Souza content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stevens is looking for a sweep.
