Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bill Gates!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gates has managed to clinch.
Askren drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Gates's coach down at Tsar's Iron Addicts Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gates's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Gates creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Bill Gates dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gates tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Askren manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gates is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Askren tries to counter with a takedown but Gates is quick to defend against it.

Askren drops down looking for a counter takedown but Gates sprawls and moves away.

Askren shoots in looking for a takedown. Gates tries to sprawl out of it but Askren keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Gates manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Askren wants to control from the top but Gates keeps moving.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gates pushes Askren away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Askren gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Gates is trying to buck Askren off.
Askren postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Gates is not content to let Askren control the position.
Gates dodges the ground and pound from Askren.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Askren remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Askren is putting a hurting on Gates here, landing some big shots from side control.
The strikes coming from Askren are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Askren is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Gates is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.

Gates seems to have recovered his senses.
Askren lands a good shot there. Gates covers up! Askren smells blood and goes for the finish - the referee warns Gates to improve his position but he's not intelligently defending himself and the referee has no choice but to step in and end the fight! Askren jumps to his feet and celebrates the important win with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jon Askren!
A less than humble Jon Askren misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
