Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, George West Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luis Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West Jr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cruz changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from West Jr. Cruz does a little dance to reset his feet.
West Jr lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Cruz avoids the body shot from West Jr.
West Jr bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Cruz's head backwards.
West Jr's corner calls for a 1-2. West Jr obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cruz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Cruz with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling West Jr to score with a decent uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West Jr looks to land a left hand but Cruz moved out of range nicely.
And Cruz tries to counter it with a takedown but West Jr pushes his down on his head and steps out.
The crowd cheers as West Jr lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cruz doesn't seem phased though.
Cruz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cruz is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
West Jr scores with a punch to the head.
George West Jr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

West Jr darts in trying to clinch

and Cruz counters with a single leg into guard. West Jr didn't expect that.
Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but West Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cruz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
West Jr can't keep his opponent in guard - Cruz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Cruz is looking for a kimura here.
West Jr is staying active underneath Cruz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
West Jr definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cruz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Cruz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. West Jr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cruz.

Cruz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Cruz seems to be working for a kimura but West Jr defends the submission attempt.

Cruz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cruz in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. West Jr tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cruz!
